This is my first Marvel Legends Gambit action figure. When this figure was first released, I didn't purchased it because I didn't have the space. But as Gambit fan, I knew eventually I'll purchase this action figure; it was just a matter of time. I got the ML Gambit on Mar. Ii, Mmiv at Toy R Us for $VIII.XCIX.

Gambit ML's Bio from the back of the card:

Always an outsider, Remy Lebeau was shunned as a youth because of his strange, burning-red eyes. Eventually, he realized he was a mutant - gifted with the ability to charge inanimate objects with explosively released biokenetic energy. In Gambit's hands, eve the most benign implement becomes an exploding projectile. However, he most often relies on kinetically charged playing cards. A reformed thief and charming scoundrel, the ragin' Cajun always has a card up his sleeve!

NOTE: For some reasons, the ML Gambit tech spec powers are even lower than the Gambit 1992 Impel tech spec or the 1994 Marvel Metal tech spec.

These images were all photographed and scanned by me. If you're a Gambit fan, this will definitely bring back some reminiscences.

R-2 ML Gambit's Action Figure:

Of all the Gambit Classic Uniform action figures that had been produced, the 2003 Marvel Legend version is the most beautiful and superior of them all. Moreover, it features many goodies such as weapons, base stand, and comic. The figure itself stands approximately 6 3/16" in height. Gambit's trench coat is actually fabric and can either be put on him or taken off, see R-3. My only minor complaint is that Gambit body looks a little bit too skinny.

R-3 ML Gambit without the Trench Coat:

Indeed, Gambit's trench coat can be removed from the action figure if desire. For those that have never seen what Gambit uniform really looks like underneath his trench coat, well you are in treat as the Marvel Legends version did a wonderful with the details. If the figure body was a little bit fatter, I may have a hard time in deciding how to display Gambit to leave it with the trench coat or without it.

R-4 ML Gambit with the Infamous Cards:

If memory serve correctly, I think this is the first Gambit action figure that tried to duplicate the comic/ cartoon charged card effect. Overall, I thought it ToyBiz did a good job in imitating the special effect. The charged cards palette measures approximately 3 14/16 x 1 6/16 (LxW) and features all the four "As" with heart/ club on bottom and diamond/ spade on top. Unfortunately due to the lack of connection and the weight, the card tends to fall off from Gambit hand very easily.

R-5 ML Gambit with the Staff:

Not surprisingly, fans kind of expected that the Gambit Marvel Legends will come with a staff as an accessory because it was easy to make as oppose to the charge card. The staff measures approximately 1/8" in diameter and 6 3/4" in length. With the many articulations body parts and the staff as a weapon, Gambit looks like a real karate fighter.

R-6 Sentinel Base:

Of all the Marvel Legends Series 4, I thought Gambit had one of the nicest accessories of the members (Beast, Punisher, and Elektra). The Sentinel hand base is exquisitely well done from detail to composition to coloring. It measures approximately 8 1/2 X 5 1/4 X 2 10/16 (LxWxH) and surprisingly it's kind of light. The base which is plastic and painted to look like real objects has a components consist of Sentinel hand, rock, wires, and other miscellaneous part. Moreover, it came with 3 pegs to be plugged under Gambit feet, see R-7.

R-7 ML Gambit on Sentinel Base up on the Wall or on the Ground:

Gambit base is designed to be displayed either on the ground such as on the table or up on the wall. The left image is what Gambit and Sentinel Base would look like if display on the wall. For better stability, use the large black cable to strap onto Gambit shoulder while the feet plugged onto the pegs of the base. Also, if the charged card isn't used, the right hand can strap itself to the second and small black cable for even more stability. As you can see from the second image, there is a hole on the back of the Sentinel Base for hanging on the wall. And if you have the horizontal space, you can place him regularly on the the flat mode (middle image).

My first impression with Gambit standing on top of the Sentinel Base from the Marvel Legends line was how much it resembled the 1994 "Sentinel Series" Gambit Statue made by Creative License, (top right corner) since both had the Sentinel hand, the rock, and dirt effect. I tried to capture the same atmosphere or posture with the bottom right picture just to show how much the Gambit statue made an inspiration to the ML Gambit action figure. Although it doesn't quiet match it, but you still can see the resemblance between the two.

ML Gambit action figure features 38 point of articulations! And with that, I'm going to let the images do the talking. It's amazing how many postures you can made out of this figure. So if you are into articulation, then the Marvel Legends line is definitely for you to own. For more on Gambit articulation, see R-10 on Articulation.

R-9 The Comic:

The comic that is included with the ML Gambit package (top left image) is actually a reprint story and art from the original Xmen vol2 issue #4 Jan. 1992 (bottom left image, Xmen #4 cover). The ML comic cover itself is also a reprint from the original Gambit Ongoing Series issue #1 (there was 6 cover variations). The Story - Gambit and Jubilee beat Rogue and Wolverine on a two on two basketball show down. Gambit and Rogue on their first date with each other. The right image shows Gambit waiting un-patiently for Rogue who was just finished putting up her best outfit for the date. Unfortunately, their dating didn't go so well as they were ambushed by Omega Red men.

Paint Quality: [B] - Just good.

Material Durability: [+A] - Very durable.

Stability: [C] - Just above average but still this figure required a very flat grounding for standing.

Fun Figure: [A] - Firing card mimic, a staff, a removable trend coat, a comic book to support the story, and a beautiful base, this toy definitely deserved this grade.

Negative Drawback: Having many articulations can sometime be an over rated thing especially when the figure keeps on falling. Also, Gambit hand doesn't hold the card that well. The darn thing kept on falling off.

Articulations: Head: Can be rotated at a 360 degree as well as tilted up or down. Shoulder: Can be swung at a 360 degree forward/ backward, move 180 degree sideway and can be rotated 360 sideway too. Shoulder can be tilted backward too. Arm/ Elbow: Can be bent at a 90 degree angle. Forearm can be rotated 360 degree sideway. Wrist/ Hand: Can be bent forward or backward. Finger can be bent too. Hip/ Waist: Hip can be bent and rotated sideway at a 360 degree. Leg: Leg can be swung 90 degree forward as well as a 360 degree sideway. The leg can also do a split as well. Knee: Knee can be bent at 90 degree angle and a 360 sideway. Ankle/ Feet: Ankle can be bent forward or backward. Feet can be bent up too. This Gambit features 38 points of articulation.

Action Figure Comic looks alike: [+A] - Definitely look like the comic.

Special Notes: Here are "2" special notes which I think you should know:

1 - Gambit trench coat is actually made of a fabric, so keep those scissor and sharp object away from the coat.

2 - The charged card and staff are easily lost so keep them safe.

Overall Grade: [-A] - The more I played or looked into this figure, the more it grew on me. It's really a great figure from the awesome sculpture to the extra goodies to the many playing values. I would've given an +A, if Gambit body wasn't a little bit skinny. For all Gambit fans, this figure is a must have because of all the Gambit "Classic Uniform" action figures that had been produced up to 2004, the ML version top them all.
