A quick comment:   Back to Misc: Review M-VII      Teletran-1

After all these years, I finally got Lion-O action figure.  I have always wanted his figure since I was a pup but due to limited of resource, I was unable to obtain one.  This is my first Thundercats action figure so I am very thrill to get one even though it cost me a fortune.  I got Lion-O from Ebay on Feb. Xxi, Mmvi and it cost me $CII.L (CIX).

Lion-O: Lord of the ThunderCats

Back of Card description:

Lion-O is the brave and powerful leader of the Thundercats.  He carries the mystical Sword of Omens and a metal lions' claw shield.  The sword gives him super-human strength and mystical powers to help him battle the Evil Mutants army of MUMM-RA.

These images were all photographed and scanned by me.  If you're a ThunderCats fan, this will definitely bring back some reminiscences.

R-1 Lion-O (8 Back) in its Original condition:

lion0orig.jpg (64516 bytes)1 - Here's Lion-O in it's original card.

2 - Back of the card features Series 1 figures of Lion-O, Tigra, Panthro, Cheetara, Mumm-ra, S-S-Slithe, Jackalman, and Monkian.

3 - Here's how it looks once the card was removed, Lion-O and contents resting on a clear plastic tray.

4 - These are all the contents that were included in the box/ package/ card: "1" Lion-O action figure, "1" sword of omens, "1" claw shield, "1" power ring, and "1" Energizer AAA battery.

NOTE-1: Sometime you will see Ebay sellers label their MOC ThunderCats action figures as "MOC Lion-O w/ 8 Back" or "MOC Mumm-ra w/ 14 Back".  This 8 Back or 14 Back or 22 Back all refers to the number of figures that were advertised at the back of the card.  Also, 8 Back = Series 1 (1985), 14 Back = Series II (1986), and 22 Back = Series III (1987).

R-2 Lion-O Action Figure:

lion0fig1.jpg (43179 bytes)Lion-O figure stands roughly 7 inches tall and looks very much like his cartoon counterpart.  Lion-O hair comes in two variations, the orange hair and the red hair.  Obviously, this is the red hair version as it should be because the cartoon Lion-O also has red hair.  He comes with two accessories (see R-3), and special gimmicks as well (see R-4).  As a figure, Lion-O biggest disappointment is the articulation, that is, no movement at the elbow, waist, knee, or feet.  The paint application maybe it's just on mine has some bleeds at the side of the neck and a little bit on shirt right strap.   But other than this, Lion-O is a beautiful figure to obtain for the good old past time sake.

R-3 Lion-O in Attacked Mode:

lion0fig2.jpg (52755 bytes)Just like the cartoon counterpart, Lion-O is packaged with his trademark Sword of Omens and Claw Shield.  Due to the way the hands are mold, the accessories can only be used by that specific hand.  Meaning, Lion-O right hand can only hold the sword and the left hand can only clamp onto the Claw Shield.  The blade of the sword is made out of a soft and flexible plastic material while the sword hilt and the Claw Shield  are both made out of hard plastic.  In term of dimension, the Sword of Omens measures approximately 4 14/16 x 1 3/16 x 7/16 (in inches) and the Claw Shield is 1 3/4 x 14/16 x 1/2 (in inches).

R-4 Lion-O Special Gimmicks:

lion0det1.jpg (53443 bytes)This action figure comes with two special gimmicks and both items can all be activated at the back of Lion-O body.  When press down the Battle-Matic Action Lever ( extruded peg), Lion-O right arm either move up or down (right image).  Lion-O nemesis, Mumm-Ra Battle-Matic Action Lever actually activated both of arm instead of one.  The second gimmick is the Power Ring which is used to light up Lion-O eyes (middle image).  This Power Ring is consisted of two independent components, the ring itself and the battery compartment, and when the two is merged with one another the result is the Power Ring.  And yes, this Power Ring can be wear in your finger if you want too.   This special gimmick requires caring as well as securely place because if you lose the Power Ring then this gimmick is useless unless you can find a replacement.  Secondly, if you are not planning to use the Power Ring for a while, remove the battery to avoid the metal corroding inside the battery compartment.  This Lion-O is packaged with a AAA battery Energizer: Alkaline - Ever Ready (bottom image).

NOTE-1: The Serie-1 - 1st Edition of Lion-O or Mumm-Ra was released without the Energizer AAA battery.

Special Notes: Here are "5" Special Notes that I think you should know:

1 - The eye of Lion-O will light up when the Power Ring is plugged onto his back.  Be sure to ask the seller whether this gimmick is workable or not.

2 - Lion-O right arm has a special mechanism that make the arm move up and down by pressing a peg (battle-matic action lever) located at the back of his body.  Make sure this gimmick is workable.

3 - If you don't like how the right arm is positioned, you can manually rotated it and you'll get a clicking sound.  This does not effect the mechanism peg so don't be afraid to do it.

4 - The Claw Shield is a little bit tight so too much on and off could easily scratch the paint application on Lion-O hand.

5 - For loose figure buyers, be sure that the Power Ring has the ring hole that goes into your finger and the battery compartment.

Overall Grade: [A] - Very beautiful especially the sculpture.  Highly recommended.
