A quick comment:   Back to Misc: Review M-VII      Teletran-1

After all these years, I finally got Mumm-Ra action figure.  I have always wanted his figure since I was a pup but due to limited of resource, I was unable to obtain one.  This is my second Thundercats action figure so I am very thrill to get one even though it cost me a fortune.  I got Mumm-Ra from fellow ThunderCats fan on Mar. I, Mmvi and it cost me $LXXXV (XCIII.LX).

Mumm-Ra: The Ever Living

Back of Card description:

Mumm-Ra is the evil master whose goal is to capture the sword of Thundera and use its powers for evil purposes.  He leads his army of Mutant Fighters against the Thundercats and will not stop until he controls everyone and everything.

These images were all photographed and scanned by me.  If you're a ThunderCats fan, this will definitely bring back some reminiscences.

R-1 Mumm-Ra (8 Back) in its Original condition:

mumm-raorig.jpg (74113 bytes)1 - Here's Mumm-Ra in it's original card.

2 - Back of the card features Series 1 figures of Lion-O, Tigra, Panthro, Cheetara, Mumm-ra, S-S-Slithe, Jackalman, and Monkian.

3 - Here's how it looks once the card was removed, Mumm-Ra and contents resting on a clear plastic tray.

4 - These are all the contents that were included in the box/ package/ card: "1" Mumm-Ra action figure, "1" black sword, "1" gray dagger, "1" power ring, and "1" catalog.

NOTE-1: Sometime you will see Ebay sellers label their MOC ThunderCats action figures as "MOC Lion-O w/ 8 Back" or "MOC Mumm-ra w/ 14 Back".  This 8 Back or 14 Back or 22 Back all refers to the number of figures that were advertised at the back of the card.  Also, 8 Back = Series 1 (1985), 14 Back = Series II (1986), and 22 Back = Series III (1987).

R-2 Mumm-Ra Action Figure:

mumm-rafig1.jpg (48117 bytes)This is the Ever-Living Mumm-Ra version as oppose to his other decay form - Mummy Mumm-Ra.  Without his ornament crown on, Mumm-ra stands roughly 7 inches tall just like his nemesis Lion-O action figure and looks very much like his cartoon counterpart.  It's unfortunate that they didn't include Mumm-ra red cape/ wrath cloth because that would make him even more cartoon accurate.  His body is sculpted like a muscle builder and his face expression is very frighten.  As a figure, Mumm-ra biggest disappointment is the articulation, that is, no movement at the elbow, waist, knee, or feet which is very typical on all Thundercats action figures.  The paint application also has some bleeds on various locations.

R-3 Mumm-Ra Beneath The Hair Dresser:

mumm-rafig3.jpg (46504 bytes)Beneath the fancy and evil looking hair dresser or helmet, the ever living Mumm-Ra actually has a bald head!  I'm not even sure which is more sinister looking whether with the hair dresser on or off.  Either way, he still look evil.  Mumm-Ra crooked teeth and face face expression say a lot about his character.  The hair dresser/ helmet has 3 teeny tiny real tabs to clip onto the head for stability.  But even with the additional of tab, the helmit is easily fell off Mumm-Ra head so be sure to keep it safe.

R-4 Mumm-Ra in Attacked Mode:

mumm-rafig2.jpg (55576 bytes)Mumm-Ra is packaged with one large black sword whose measurements is approximately 3 15/16 x 1 x 1/4 (in inches) and one gray dagger measures 2 7/16 x 1/2 x 5/16 (in inches).  Due to the way the hands are designed, it is very hard to put these two weapons into his tight finger hole.  Too much pressure and careless act can cause the Mumm-ra jointed finger of the thumb and index to split from each other.

R-5 Mumm-Ra Special Gimmicks:

mumm-radet1.jpg (65982 bytes)This action figure comes with two special gimmicks and both items can all be activated at the back of Mumm-Ra body.  When press down the Battle-Matic Action Lever (extruded peg), Mumm-Ra right arm will either move up or down (right image).  This is actually in contrast to the Lion-O action figure whose battle matic action lever only activates the right arm.  The second gimmick is the Power Ring which is used to light up Mumm-Ra eyes (middle image).  This Power Ring is consisted of two independent components, the ring itself and the battery compartment, and when the two is merged with one another the result is the Power Ring.  And yes, this Power Ring can be wear in your finger if you want too.   This special gimmick requires caring as well as securely place because if you lose the Power Ring then this gimmick is useless unless you can find a replacement.  Secondly, if you are not planning to use the Power Ring for a while, remove the battery to avoid the metal corroding inside the battery compartment.  The Power Ring requires "1"AAA battery to operate.

NOTE-1: The Serie-1 - 2nd Edition of Mumm-Ra or Lion-O was released with an Energizer AAA battery.

R-6 ThunderCats 1985 Catalog - Serie 1 :

Tcats8backsmall.jpg (87518 bytes)ThunderCats catalog for Serie-1 of 1985 (or 8 back card) was printed on a paper size of 2 1/2 x 13 (in inches).  The front of the catalog contains the large ThunderCats logo with texts of "Collect all of these" and "Action Toys From JLN!."  When the paper is folded out, it reveals an ads of Astral Moat Monster, Evil Nose Dive w/ Jackalman, and Evil Skycutter w/Monkian.  On the reverse side, ads of Good Thundercats feature Panthro, Lion-O, Tygra, and Cheetara.  Then the Thundertank with Lion-O holding the Sword of Omen and Claw Shield.  And sitting behind Lion-O is Panthro firing the weapon.  The next panel is the full size electronic Sword of Omen features light up Eye of Thundera with a kid holding it as though he's summoned the other Thundercats.  Last but not least, the last panel shows the Evil Mutants of Monkian, Mumm-ra, S-S-Slithe, and Jackalman.  Also, see 1986 Catalog.

R-7 The Transformation:

mummymummrafig3.jpg (57006 bytes)"Ancient spirits of evil..... transform this decayed form to Mumm-Ra, the Ever-Living!  Ha....yeah ha.......!"  This diabolic and eerie phrase always gave me that chilling goose bump whenever I heard that sound coming out of Mumm-Ra voice.  In the action figure world, Mummy Mumm-Ra stands just below Mumm-Ra arm pit.

Special Notes: Here are "6" Special Notes that I think you should know:

1 - The eye of Mumm-Ra will light up when the Power Ring is plugged onto his back.  Be sure to ask the seller whether this gimmick is workable or not.

2 - Mumm-Ra both arm has a special mechanism that make the arms move up and down by pressing a peg (battle-matic action lever) located at the back of his body.  Make sure this gimmick is workable.

3 - If you don't like how the both arm are positioned, you can manually rotated it and you'll get a clicking sound.  This does not effect the mechanism peg so don't be afraid to do it.

5 - For loose figure buyers, be sure that the Power Ring has the ring hole that goes into your finger and the battery compartment.

6 - Mumm-Ra hair dresser/ helmet is easily fell off from his head so keep an eye on it.

Overall Grade: [A] - Very beautiful especially the sculpture.  Highly recommended.
