THEJUNKET kettering just keeps on turfing them out, doesn't it? kettering is the new wales which was the new england which was the new america which was.......oh dear.
sometime in '98, steve lamacq, on his charming radio show, played a track by a new band called 'the junket'. as the opening bars began i knew i was to start a deep and meaningful relationship with the song but alas, i had no tape to hand to record the track. mr.lamacq explained that only 500 copies had been pressed of the record and i knew it would be extremely difficult to get hold of. for a whole second i comtemplated as to whether or not to write the details down and spend a lifetime hunting for the record, or just forget it. but i couldn't just forget it, the song was stuck in my head and i knew that somehow a copy of 'the engine man' would be mine. oh yes. actually the details are still written down in the back of my diary (weeeeell, they hardly erased themselves, did they now?) provoking oh so sweet memories for me.
eventually i managed to get my grubby mitts on the record (punk micky/the engine man on lime street records - 50p in camden!!!!!) so that was pretty much okay. mailorder would have been so much easier but we shan't go into that far more practical teritory. far too sensible.....er.....
yeah, the junket sound great. the music these three guys produce is raw, angry, loud and oh so tuneful. and i am going to refuse to liken them to anything. especially not the pecadiloes crossed with placebo as that may give too much away and create way too huge a fan base, generating far too much money for the the three kettering lads. er.......draw your own conclusions. then wear a hole in your album.
