The men of the Fourteenth who were captured during the war suffered various fates. For some, their captivity was an unpleasant but short-lived experience. For others, captivity meant suffering and privation and, in extreme instances, death.
INSIGNIA OF THE
On November 3, 1879, a meeting of Union Ex-Prisoners of War, chiefly residents, was held at Toledo, for the purpose of effecting a permanent organization with a view to social advantages and to the promotion of such other interests common to them as occasions might favor. The result was the institution of the Union Ex-Prisoners of War Association of Toledo.
The list of names on this page, of men of the 14th Ohio who were Prisoners of War, comes from the official regimental rosters as well as a list of members of the above-named organization.
