Served in World War II in the Navy. Was on the ship, St. Lo, when it was hit by a Kamikaze plane, October 1944, in the battle of Leyte Gulf, in the Philippines. The ship sunk, and he was in the water for 48 hours, before being rescued by a Medical ship. He was taken to a hospital in Long Beach California, suffering from burns on his chest, back, and arms. Was released 6 weeks later. His brother Raymond, was reported missing in action two months later.

Sc Joseph H. Wahl, age 28, member of the personnel on an aircraft carrier, husband of Mrs. Mary H. Wahl, 1172 Azel Ave. was wounded October 26, in the Battle of Leyte, his wife disclosed Wednesday. Seaman Wahl suffered burns and was treated in a hospital in Long Beach Ca. He is the brother of Pfc. Raymond J. Wahl, reported missing in action since December 15 in Belgium. After recupersting from his wounds, Wahl spent a 30-day leave with his wife and their three children in Hamilton. He is the son of Edward Wahl, 311 South B St. Wahl attended the Hamilton schools and was employed with the Highland Park Dairy. Another brother Cpl. Clifford Wahl, is in China.

Pfc. Raymond J. Wahl, age 22, assigned to a tank destroyer, has been missing in action since December 15 in Belgium, according to a war department telegram received Sunday by his wife, Mrs. Bernice Wahl, 1741 Kahn Ave. His father is Edward Wahl, 311 South B St. Private Wahl the father of Thomas David Wahl, age two and one-half months, entered military service December 26, 1942, and went overseas in August, 1944. he formerly was employed at the Milton's Poultry company, Hamilton Ohio.
Rites Thursday for Pfc. Wahl.
Full military rites for Pfc. Raymond J. Wahl, son of Edward Wahl, 315 South B St. who was killed in action in Belgium December 16, 1944, will be held Thursday afternoon, 2 o'clock, from the Webb funeral home, South D St. and Ross Ave. with the Rev. T.J. Steenbergen of the Gordon Ave. Church of God officiating. Buril will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday after 4 o'clock at the funeral home. Born in Hamilton, October 26, 1922, he was the son of Edward and Myrtle Willey Wahl. Private Wahl was 22 years old when killed. He was inducted into military service December 26, 1942, and went overseas in August 1944, where he was assigned to a tank destroyer unit. prior to induction he was employed with Milton's poultry Company. He leaves his father, one son, Thomas David Wahl, Hamilton: four brothers, George, Charles, Joseph, and Clifford, all of Hamilton and four sisters Mrs. Florence Gray, Mrs Ada Wysong, Mrs Geneva Thomas, all of Hamilton, and Mrs. Kirby Newman, Rigby Idaho.
