Chapter Thirty Three
"The winner of the best dressed couple award seventeen and under is Laura Iverson and Brett Callahan!" Everybody applauded as they went up and collected their trophies. "And the winner of the best dressed couple award eighteen and above is Patty and David Anderson!" We all clapped again. "Now for the final event, the kissing contest. I'm gonna say right now, that if we had an award for longest, Ian and Rachael McCoy would have that one," Mr. Robertson joked, and we laughed while I exchanged a look with my mom. "Anyway, the winners of the kissing contest eighteen and over are Rachael and Ian McCoy!" The crowd errupted with laughter and applause. They went up and collected their award and gave eachother another lenghty kiss in front of the people. When they came by us, I said, "Whoa! Way to go mom!" They were grinning from ear to ear.
"We have one left here!" Everybody quieted, and the kids hoped for their names to be called. "And the final catergory. The winners of the kissing award for seventeen and under is...wow." He looked up at the crowd and smiled. "The winner of the seventeen and under best kiss award goes to... Taylor Hanson and Love McCoy! Two awards in three years! Way to go Love!"
"Come on Tay!" I grabbed his hand and lead him up there. Corey and Taylor exchanged smiles. WE accepted our trophy and started to leave.
"Love. You know how this works. Where are you guys going?! Get up here and finish the job!" As I walked passed Tay I whispered, "I tried to get away so we wouldn't have to do that again, but I guess we have to now."
"I guess so." We wrapped our arms around eachother and gave the audience another play. Another act. WHen we were done, everybody clapped and we ran off to a corner.
"I tried to leave. He wouldn't let me."
"I know. It's okay though. It went okay."
"It did. I'm glad we practiced. We worked hard for it. Are you gonna tell your mom about the trophy?"
"I don't think so. I'll show it to Ike and Zac, but not my mom or dad."
"Should we go now? We can."
"Okay, lets go. This thing is killing me." Tay tugged on the collar of his shirt.
"But you do have to admit that you do look good."
"Thanks. Lets go." We went to the coatroom and got our coats, then went to find my parents. We found them talking to Mr. Robertson and his son. We stood there and waited until they stopped talking.
"Anytime, we can leave." I said, looking at Corey. "We're ready to go mom."
"Hold on a minute. Here are the keys. Start up the car and warm it up. Don't go anywhere. You can't drive yet."
"Kay mom. Come on Tay. Bye Mr. Robertson! Thanks for the awards!" I called to him over my shoulder as we went to the car.
