The Fleet
While Quersin Jax's experiences
deal primarily with the Imperial Army, he had enough dealings with the
Imperial Navy to understand that the key to any major engagement was an
adequate fleet. While some of his fleet is comprised of vessels common
in both the Imperial Remnant and the New Republic, he does have a few ships
unique to his fleet. The fleet is comprised of the following vessels:
Marauder Class Sith Battleship
Inspired from the Imperial
class Star Destroyer, the Marauder Class Sith battle ship is an improvement
over its predecessor, the Sith Battle ship (see below). In size,
the Marauder class battle ship is akin to the Imperial Class Star Destroyer,
reaching a length of 1,400 meters in length.
The Marauder Class Sith
Battle Ship is armed with 40 turbolaser batteries, 40 ion cannon batteries,
and 6 tractor beam projectors. It carries a full Sith trooper legion, 40
AATs, 6 Lambda-class shuttles, 8 landing barges, and 4 Sith fighter squadrons.
Like all the Sith ships, the Marauder-Class Sith Battleship uses an advanced
targetting computer that allows its gunners to fire its ION cannons simultaniously
with its turbolaser batteries.
The interior of the ship
houses many training areas for students of the Brotherhood, including meditation
chambers, lightsaber training areas with remotes, and a variable gravity
and atmosphere room to simulate hostile planetary conditions. Furthermore
there was an extensive computer library which hold many Sith and Jedi texts
Thus far, only two of these
vessels exist, the Sovereign, the personal vessel of Quersin Jax
and the current flagship of the fleet, and the Malevolent, which
is usually commanded by one or more of his senior apprentices.
There are rumers of a larger
vessel being constructed, akin to the Super Star Destroyers of the Empire,
but thus far these rumers have yet to be validated.
Sith Battle Ships
Like the Star Destroyers
of the Empire, the Sith Battle Ships have become the signature vessel of
Quersin Jax's regime. Though not nearly as large as its lumbering
predecessor (a mere 700 meters as opposed to the 1600 meters of the Imperial
Star Destroyer), the Sith Battle Ships make up for it in added speed and
mobility, at least as much as could be expected from a capitol sized vessel.
The Sith Battle Ship is
designed primarily as an attack vessel. Since Quersin Jax himself
seldom desires prisoners, what space would normally sport ion cannon batteries
is instead lined with turbolaser batteries. The result is an impressive
vessel sporting 20 quadlaser canons, 4 turbolaser batteries, 20 ion cannon
batteries, and a tractor beam projectors. It carries a full Sith trooper
battalion, 2 Sith AAT, 2 landing barges, and 2 Sith Fighter squadrons.
The Sith Battle Ship also incorporates a similar targeting computer as
that used by the Sith fighters, allowing it to fire its ION cannons and
quadlaser batteries simultaniously. The Marauder also possesses a
reinformced forward hull, allowing it to effectively ram other vessels
with little fear of the ship itself being damaged.
Two if these vessals have
4 gravity well projectors as well. These vessals possess fewer ion cannons,
possessing only four. These ION cannons are tied to the ships turbolaser
batteries instead of its quad lasers. The fleet contains 4 of these vessels
total, including the 2 possessing the gravity wells.
Corelian Corvette
Built by the Corellian Engineering
Corporation, the Corellian corvette CR90 is a mid-sized vessel which can
function as a troop carrier, light escort vessel, cargo transport, or passenger
liner. The interior of the ship is modularly designed, so it is easy to
reconfigure a corvette from one of these duties to another, thus greatly
increasing its usefulness and resale value.
Originally built ages ago
for a Corellian audience, these corvettes have fast sublight and hyperdrive
engines. Their passenger compartments are large, and their standard armament
is more than enough to deter most pirates. Corellian corvettes do have
a distinct design flaw, however. Their principal solar and stabilizer fin,
mounted dorsally, is located directly above the main reactor. Damage to
the fin could cause vibrations that would overload the reactor. In these
situations, the captain of the vessel would be forced to shut down the
reactor.
Because of their use in
illegal activities by pirates, Rebels and independents, these crafts are
often called blockade runners. Quersin utilizes these ships primarily
as troop transports and patrol craft. These vessels have been heavily
modified to serve more of a combat capacity than cargo transport.
The fleet contains 4 of these vessels. Much of their cargo hold space
has been refitted with docking stations for Sith fighters.
Sith Fighter
Combining technology developed
from lessons learned of the weaknesses of the TIE line of fighters, the
Sith fighter blends such technology as well as incorporates other technological
advances. Much of its engineering was designed using the TIE Defender
as a base.
The Sith Fighter has two
sets of solar collection panels, a pair of Novaldex shield generators,
a hyperdrive, and a proton torpedo launcher. To make the ship more effective
against the armed freighters, medium ion cannons were squeezed into the
frame as well.
The Sith Fighter has an
advanced targeting system that allows the pilot to fire the ship's ion
cannons simultaneously with its lasers. A triple array of maneuvering
jets connected to the defender's ion engines makes the it one of the most
agile fighters in existence.
Little concern appears to
have been given to the to the comfort of the Sith fighter pilot, and only
the most essential subsystems were included. Among these was an interesting
mechanic that illustrated the versatility of the vehicle. When docked or
cruising long distances, the wings were folded inward and weapon systems
were left offline to conserve energy. In combat, the wings unfolded, and
blaster cannons were powered at each outward edge. This broad attack area
allowed a small number of ships to produce devastating crossfire, while
each remained difficult to target because of the undersized front and rear
profile.
Interceptor-Class Sith Fighter
An improvement over the Sith
Fighter, only its cost to manufacture keep the craft from dominating the
Sith fleet. While most of its systems are similar to that of the
Sith fighter, there is one major difference: the Sith Interceptor is equipped
with
a full-effect cloaking device that gives invisibility upon command. An
invisibility field is a formidable weapon, since it can defeat most security
systems and make acts of theft, sabotage, and assassination all but unstoppable.
A little more allowance
for comfort was developed for this versionstarfighter as opposed to its
predecessor, making it more ideal for longer trips. The hyperdrive
is also more advanced, making it faster than its predecessor, and an advanced
system of maneuvering jets make the craft even more agile. If the
craft became more prolific, it could dominate space battles, but the cost
of the vessel is staggering, and thus, only three of its kind are in existance,
one as the personal vessel of Quersin Jax (and thus more heavily modified),
and the other two used by his apprentices for missions.
