Paul's Pictures - December 2003

I'll be doing this month entirely in retrospect, since it's already January and I haven't even started. What a month it has been. School got out, I visited my other sister and brother-in-law, my car broke down (I don't believe I didn't get a picture of that!), and then New Year's festivities (again, no pictures. I forgot my camera :(  ).

My sister finally convinced me it was high time I update this site, so that's what I've been doing. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up the pace after this.

December 29

We decided to go for a walk today. For late December, in New England, we had astonishly good weather. It was 60 degrees out, I think. People were walking around in shorts and T-shirts.

While walking, we saw this sign, and just had to get a picture of it. Since I was the one with the camera, that fell to me. I'd hoped this would turn out clearer, but it's okay. Yes, you read that right: "NO PARKING EXCEPT FOR BOB". Who is Bob, and what did he do to deserve his own parking spot, and his own sign, to boot? There was noone parked there when we took the picture, so we can only assume he was on vacation.

December 28

As is our family tradition, we gave ourselves a puzzle for Christmas. Here is my sister putting together the puzzle. She actually did most of it, since her husband and I were busy playing the new games we got for Christmas most of the time.

You obviously can't tell from here, and this early in the making, but the puzzle is of a cat sitting on a bookshelf. I thought I had a picture of the completed puzzle (we actually finished it during the week I was there), but looking through what I have, I guess I don't.

December 27

Arrgh! I knew it would happen some day. There are two pictures I want to post, but they both happened on the same day. What to do, what to do? I've got it! Since one of the pictures happened over time, I'll just make that tomorrow's. Yes, that what I'll do.

I don't remember if I mentioned this here or not, but a while back, my grandmother's house half burned down. What remained was too damaged to use, so they knocked down what was left and are now in the process of building another one. When I asked, I heard the new house would be finished in March.

Here is where the house used to be. It looks like they're getting ready to lay the foundation for the new house. I'm not sure what the tarp is for. If you look very carefully, you can see a trailer in the distance. That's where my parents keep some stuff in storage.

December 25

Christmas Day! I took many pictures, but decided to stick with the classic "presents under the tree." As you can see here, it's a very small tree, but that didn't stop us from putting presents under it, and it added a festive tone to the living room.

Christmas was fun. I got a new N64 game, Banjo-Tooie, which I've heard was good but never played. I gave my sister some art stuff and my brother-in-law a USB pen drive. The day wasn't bubbling with excitement like it did when I was little; it was sortof an exciting day, but mostly relaxed.

December 23

While visiting my sister and brother-in-law, I got to sleep on the couch in the living room. It wasn't bad, though. The couch is really long, long enough to stretch out it, and I got to use a brand new Ecuadorian blanket made from llama wool. Or maybe it's alpaca wool? Whatever.

December 21

My car broke down just a few days before needing to drive to Kansas City and flying out to be with my sister and brother-in-law for Christmas. Sorry, I didn't get any pictures. It was night, and they probably wouldn't've turned out well.

Anyway, I hitched a ride with someone driving to Kansas City to be with their folks. That was Saturday. I spent the night with an understanding friend, then went to church with him the next day.

The church he attends meets in a school gymnasium, as seen in this picture (notice the basketball hoop). After church, we ate lunch, then he gave me a ride to the airport. Friends are nice like that.

December 18

We've been having warmer weather lately, much to the chagrin of this snowman. Unfortunately, I did not see the original version, or I might have made a before & after picture.

December 10

One of the guys who lives upstairs has rediscovered his webcam recently. He has also discovered it's fun to use as a rear-view camera. He started taking random picture of people behind him.

So I thought, if he gets pictures of me, I'll get pictures of him. This picture is named on my computer "I get Ryan gets me."
