Chapter 19

Isaac kissed Taryn softly, and she moved as close to him as she could get. Isaac surrendered himself to the feeling of having Taryn in his arms, shaking off all the bad feelings that he had been focusing on since she had come back into his life.

Taryn lay back and let Isaac touch her and kiss her, ignoring the fact that they were lying on top of all her work notes. She could redo them later. For the moment, being with Isaac was much more important.

Isaac reached over Taryn’s head and turned off the lamp on her nightstand. A flash of lightening lit up the bedroom and Taryn watched as Isaac pulled the blanket he had been wrapped in over the two of them.

Before long they had undressed each other and were on the verge of making love for the first time in a long time.

Isaac raised up and brushed Taryn’s hair back from her forehead. “God, I’ve missed you,” he said.

Taryn smiled. “I’ve missed you too,” she said quietly. “Being here with you feels like I’ve taken a long trip and I’m finally coming home.”

Isaac buried his face in Taryn’s neck. “I didn’t come in here expecting this to happen,” he said. “My intention really was just to talk.”

Taryn stroked Isaac’s thick hair. “That’s just it, Isaac,” she said. “There’s too much electricity between us to just talk. To be honest, I’m surprised we’ve been able to hold back as long as we have.”

Isaac kissed Taryn again, this time parting her teeth and putting his tongue in her mouth gently. He loved the way kissing her felt, and he could distinctly remember a time when he thought that he could go on forever doing nothing but kissing her.

Isaac ran his hands down Taryn’s sides. She was running her foot up and down the side of his leg, and he felt the rush building between them, just like it always had.

Isaac all of a sudden remembered birth control.

“Man, Taryn, I don’t have anything,” he said.

Taryn grinned and motioned toward the nightstand.

“I have some leftover from the last time we were together in the drawer,” she said.

Isaac breathed a sigh of relief and smiled.

After he necessary precautions had been taken, Isaac positioned himself and entered Taryn slowly. He closed his eyes and breathed deeply, not wanting to rush things and have it be over too soon.

They made love slowly and gently, neither one saying a word. The storm was still raging outside, and the room would light up as the lightening flashed every so often.

When neither Isaac nor Taryn could hold back anymore it was over, and they lay together in the darkness.

Isaac stroked Taryn’s auburn hair as she lay with her head on his chest, and he stared at the ceiling. He wasn’t sure if he was glad he had done what he had, or if he was mad at himself for letting his defenses down.

And now, he reasoned with himself, this created a whole new set of problems. He knew in his heart of hearts that he couldn’t be with someone he didn’t trust. And he still wasn’t sure he trusted Taryn.

Taryn’s breathing became slow and even, and Isaac kissed the top of her head. Just let yourself have tonight, he said to himself. Just let it be about loving her. If just for tonight, let go of the bitterness.

Isaac held Taryn a little more tightly, and as the thunderstorm finally passed he drifted off to sleep.
