Chapter 30

It was after midnight when Isaac and Taryn got back to the Marriott. The intense scene in the road had lead to an even heavier one in the back of the limousine, and things were just about ready to get completely out of hand by the time they were in the hotel room together.

Isaac had backed Taryn up against the wall the minute the door closed. She pushed the jacket from his shoulders. The kissing and touching escalated into a wild flurry.

“Isaac,” Taryn gasped as he slid the scarf out of her hair and began kissing her neck. “You need to call your parents. We need to check on the kids.”

Isaac rested his head on Taryn’s shoulder and willed his heart to stop pounding. “You’re right,” he said quietly. “Just let me catch my breath here for a minute.”

Taryn took Isaac’s face in her hands and kissed the tip of his nose. “All part of the parental territory,” she said with a smile.

Isaac kissed her on the lips quickly. “I will be back,” he said. “You just don’t go anywhere.”

Taryn smiled. “I’ll be right here.”

Taryn watched as Isaac walked over and sat on the edge of the bed. He lifted the phone from the cradle and dialed his home phone number. He never took his eyes off Taryn.

“Hey, Dad,” he said. Taryn watched as Isaac talked to his father.

“How are the kids?” Isaac grinned at Taryn as he listened to his father talk. “Really? Okay … yeah. Um, say Dad, we’re going to watch a movie here at the hotel, and then I’m probably just going to sack out here. What? Oh, uh-huh. Yep. We’ll just come over in the morning. Is that okay?”

Taryn crawled onto the bed next to Isaac and began to kiss his neck. He closed his eyes and tried to concentrate on whatever Walker was saying to him.

“Okay. Yeah, thanks. Tell Mom we appreciate it and that we’ll be there in time to get Clara up in the morning. Okay? Yep, you too. Goodnight.”

Isaac leaned over and hung up the phone. He looked at Taryn. “You are bad,” he said.

“What?” Taryn asked innocently.

Isaac shook his head. “Never mind,” he said.

Isaac stood up and offered Taryn his hand. He pulled her up next to him. “Where were we?” he asked.

Taryn smiled slyly. “You must remember,” she said.

Isaac leaned down and kissed Taryn. It felt right to be with her now that things were getting back on track.

Isaac slid Taryn’s jacket off her shoulders as he kissed her neck and her ears. She let her head fall back and ran her hands from his shoulders to the small of his back and up again.

Isaac eased Taryn onto the bed and propped his head up in his hand. “Here we are again,” he said.

Taryn stroked Isaac’s long, curly hair. “You aren’t going to regret this in the cold light of day, are you?” she asked hesitantly.

Isaac brushed Taryn’s hair out of her eyes. “No,” he said with great certainty.

It wasn’t long before Taryn and Isaac had divested themselves of their attire. Their lovemaking held a new level of connection and trust that had never been there before, and they were both very aware of it. Everything about it was different and better than it had been before.

Isaac realized halfway through that the lights were still on. He looked into Taryn’s eyes and was awestruck by how it felt to see the love she had for him there.

When it was over, Isaac held Taryn tightly to him and stroked her hair. “I love you,” he said. He wanted to say something about how wonderful making love to her had felt, but was unable to come up with the words.

Taryn smiled. She turned slightly and rested her chin on his chest as she looked into his eyes. “I’ve waited so long for this,” she said. “There were times not so long ago when I didn’t know if it was ever going to happen again. Being here with you just makes me realize what a waste that would have been.”

Isaac smiled. “We’re going to work through whatever we have to,” he said with conviction. “We’re going to be patient with one another. We’re going to take little baby steps toward making it even better than it was before.”

Taryn grinned. “I have an idea about how we can start,” she said coyly.

Isaac and Taryn spent a blissful night together. By the time they finally fell asleep at daybreak, they both knew that with their love for one another as a base, they were going to be able to get through anything as long as they were together.
