A Good Man's Death
During Easter I meditated on the fact that Jesus wasn't buried in his own tomb. Why is that? He was a man - he was going to have an appointment to die - why didn't he have a tomb? It was part of the cultural tradition. His family wasn't rich but they weren't poor. The fact is everything in Jesus' life was for a reason. He didn't have a tomb because he didn't come to die His own death - he died someone else's!
Joseph of Arimathea was a "good" man. He had a "good" reputation. He was even rich by some standards. The truth remained however, he still needed Jesus to die his death! See, Jesus didn't just come for the murdering sinner and the "tax collector". He came for the "good man" too! He died the "good man's" death and was placed in his tomb so that everyone had the opportunity to be raised up with him! Jesus told the Pharisees - you are as white washed tombs which means: you may look good and pretty but you are still just a vessel waiting for death! Your good works are as filthy rags - and we all know what kind of rags he was talkin' about. Joseph was a man of good reputation; but a good name won't get you into heaven. Your good looks won't get you into heaven. Your good works won't get you into heaven.
There's only one form of currency in Heaven:
THE BLOOD OF JESUS!!!!
Spent for everyone.
