The Twentieth Night

Three shadows walked, side by side. Their figures skewed by the mirkiness of the night. Trees shook their gangly branches in the wind, still the three some walked down the road.

Kara stared forward, a hard and empty gaze; while Taylor watched her as he watched Isaac, unsure of what either would do. Isaac's feet stumbled clumsily over the rocky and cracked pavement, and he shuddered against not only the cold but his company.

"So what do we do now?" Taylor asked softly.

"What do you mean 'we'? Look, thank you for your kindness but that's not exactly what I'm looking for right now. We're completely different people, we wouldn't accomplish anything."

"We've got the same goal."

Kara scoffed, "You want to save the world and rid yourself of guilt; I want a quick, hard fuck and revenge. I don't see how those two go hand in hand."

"Shut up! Please, just stop it. I don't want to hear it. If you've got something to say, don't say it in front of me, I don't want to have anything to do with you." Isaac clenched his fists as his tears streamed towards his younger brother, "I don't want to remember that I've ever known you."

Kara shrugged and began to walk away, "See, we don't go hand in hand. And besides, the whole brotherly squabble thing really isn't my cup of tea. I'll catch ya' later."

Isaac stood still and Taylor looked at him, "Go be with your own kind." he spat.

Taylor narrowed his eyes, "I saved your life. I've saved it more than once."

"You think that makes up for ruining it?"

"I never ruined your life, I ruined my own!"

"How the hell could you possibly think that? Every thing you do affects me! Every part of you that you ruin you ruin in me. It's always been like that. Taylor, you're sadistic. You hurt everyone you come in contact with. I wish you were someone else's brother."

Fuming Taylor turned away, "Fine, find your own way home." He disappeared into the night's fog after Kara. In one breath, "I can give you what you need."
