THE BRIDGEGATE
The Bridge gate seen here was built by the city fathers in 1782 to replace an older gate which was arched. There was a squat round tower at either end of the old Dee Bridge.
On top of the tower on the Mills side was a tall octagonal water tower, which served as a cistern to supply the city with water.
It was built in the year 1600 , and was intended by raising the water to a cistern at the top, to have conveyed it in pipes, to all parts of the city :
