O'Brien's Foreglen GAC was founded in 1888. The club was named after William O'Brien a nationalists politican at the time.

Who was William O'Brien?

William O'Brien was an MP, and a member of the Irish Parlimentary Party.

The Gaelic Athletic Association reached Derry in 1888, 4 years after it had been formed in Thurles.
