Endamar was born in Villies, a small town in the hinterlands of the Serene Republic of Lacramar. She was always bright, and was sent to Lacramar when she was 13 to stay with a cousin and further her education. She did that with a vengeance, gaining a patron that allowed her to leave the temple school and move to a private school. There, she caught the eye of the mage Invar Mayar. At that stage, he was not so infamous for his body-changing trick as he was later to become, and flattered by his interest, Endamar became an apprentice. However, they had a violent argument after he body-changed with her, and after returning her to her own body Invar changed her into songbird. It was probably only meant as a temporary punishment, but Endamar fled. After many adventures, she fell in with Talécanar - a magician and ex-priest from Na Féile. He detected her magical bondage, and was able - with the help of his friend Garicus - to return her to human form. The spell is merely in abeyance, however - if severely stressed, Endamar can lose control of it and then will revert to bird form, from which it is hard to change back.
In her normal form, Endamar is short, but muscular and stocky. She has a broad face, with heavy cheekbones, a snub nose and large brown eyes. She has an infectious smile and laughs readily, but she also has a hot temper and a sharp tongue that she uses without thinking sometimes.
Since her rescue by Talécanar and Garicus she has adventured with them both many times. Indeed after several years she and Garicus were married. The three were based for over a decade in Karmorvus, where Endamar still maintains some contacts.
Rather than the reality-changing magic of Invar Mayar, Endamar has chosen to specialise in illusion magic, although she also studied necromancy while in Karmorvus. In any kind of fight, her usual tactic is to drop back behind Garicus and cast mass invisibility on the two of them plus any other allies in range, and then attack any obvious mages with her Mind Missile or Endless Night spells. Fighter types she will try to confuse with illusions.
