Least we ever forget.

Is it possible that anyone dosen't know what happened on september the elventh? If for some reason you have been living in a cave for almost the last four months let me give you a quick recap.

Fanatical losers who followed the misguided teachings of a mad man(usoma bin-ladin) used planes as fuel ladden missles against our country. They flew them into both the world trade towers, the pentagon, and attempted to crash another one also. The one which failed did so only due to the heroic actions of the people aboard who recognized that either way they would lost thier lives, but there was a way for them to say other peoples lives. They selflessly made an attempt to take over the plane and when unsucessful caused to to crash in the countryside instead of into another building. They put the needs of others ahead of their own concern for themselves.

To me the biggest loss was all the firefighters and police who lost their lives when the trade towers collapsed. After seeing the planes fly into the buildings they selflessly ran into the buring buildings to save others. Thanx to their actions many more lives were saved than would have been if left to their own devices.
They were equipt with the same knowledge as I have, probably more. They know that the metal would expand at 1000 degrees, that at only 500 degrees it would start to become dangerous. They were well aware that the fire was so hot it must have melted the supports like plastic. Yet still they ran in. Almost 350 fireman and 50 police were killed when the towers collapsed. Many of them were ones who ran into the second building to help others after seeing the first go down.

What they did sets them in a place of their own. Even tho I am only a rookie firefighter and at the time still hadn't finished the academy I felt the bond to my brothers in the Fire Department Of New York city. The idea that as firefighters we must always look out for our own as well as the public was constantly put before me in the academy.
When the buildings feel down I knew that many firefighters had just lost their lives. I'm not to proud to admit that even know it brings tears to my eyes. Watchig it when it happened and even thinking about it know has a very powerful effect on me.

Those men were truly amazing. I can only hope that if I ever find myself in the same type of position that I can act with as much selfless courage and care for others as they did. They should be our idols, our heros, the people we want to emulate, to grow up to be like. Sports figures, political figures, actors, none of these people have anything on those firefighters and police officers.
