Literary Classics
Description: The heart of the class is a 45 to 60 minute lecture / discussion supplemented with a video presentation from The Learning Channel's Great Books, all-time literary classics featuring professors recognized in their respective fields. Students are required to take notes and participate in probing question and answer session. Session ends with drafting an outline for the paper.
Assignments: Weekly assignments are to probe deeper into subject
area via:
searching topic (author, work, genre, etc.) in encyclopedias, books, articles, and
the World Wide Web;
Benefits: The goal for the student is to provide a stimulating environment for learning about the classics, great ideas, and literary genres; and sharpening research, writing, and presentation skills. Students who apply themsleves will find earning A's, Advanced Placement classes, and the college years much easier.
