Runways - Four main runways and 30 taxiways are currently in use. They are constructed of either concrete, asphalt, or a combination of both. Runway 15L/33R measures 3,368.0 x 60.9 metres (11,050 x 200 feet). Runway O6L/24R measures 3,200.4 x 60.9 metres (10,500 x 200 feet). Runway O6R/24L measures 2,895.6 x 60.9 metres (9,500 x 200 feet). Runway 15R/33L measures 2,590.0 x 60.9 metres (8,500 x 200 feet).

Gates

There are 79 bridged aircraft gates at the airport: 23 in Terminal 1, 32 in Terminal 2, and 24 in Terminal 3. There are also 23 off-gate aircraft parking spaces, as well as a satellite terminal adjacent to Terminal Three with an additional five gates.

Carriers

There are 56 carriers operating out of LBPIA, providing same plane service to over 140 destinations in 44 countries around the world.

Aircraft Activity

The maximum hourly capacity of the runway system is 96 movements per hour under Visual Meteorological conditions, and 78 movements per hour under Instrumental Meteorological Conditions. However, a limit of 84 movements per hour has been imposed to guarantee more efficient aircraft movement.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA)

Toronto - Lester B. Pearson International Airport is operated by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), a private, not-for-profit corporation.

Cargo

Air cargo operations are carried out in eight buildings, in two separate cargo areas, by 67 air carriers (8 of which are strictly freight), and by over 100 freight forwarders and customs brokers. Each year, 40 percent of the country's air cargo passes through LBPIA.

Commercial and Industrial

Located at the north and south ends of the airport, two General Aviation areas are home to 7 primary and over 30 sub-tenants. These sub-tenants are involved in the operations of commercial, corporate, and private aircraft, as well as, fuelling operations, manufacture, sales, operations, and maintenance of avionics.

Employees

There are over 15,000 total on-site employees from the airlines, aviation support, passenger services, and the federal government.

Parking Facilities

There are approximately 10,000 parking spaces at the airport. Terminal 1's eight-level structure parking facility sits atop Terminal 1 and contains approximately 1,100 spaces. Terminal 2's five-level structure parking facility contains approximately 3,850 spaces. Terminal 3's parking facility adds an additional 3,000 parking spaces.

Inter-Terminal Shuttle Bus System

Inter-terminal shuttle buses are available at curbside on the departure level of all three terminals. The buses leave every ten minutes from 0600h to 0059h and are wheelchair accessible.

Primary Access Roads

Intercity access to LBPIA is provided by highways 409 and 427. In addition, a number of roads provide access to the airport. Some of these include Airport Road, Silver Dart Drive, American Drive, Renforth Drive, Derry Road East, Jetliner Road, Britannia Road, and Convair Drive.

Economic Impact

In 1997, it is estimated that the airport and its associated activities were responsible for $11 billion in revenue for local businesses, 111,000 jobs, and $3.2 billion in personal income.
