About Self Injury

Below are some basic facts about SI.
Ways Some People SI is not meant to 'share' ways to SI,
only to make non si-ers aware of what's going on.

Many people in the US inflict pain on themselves on a regular basis. This little publicized problem is larger than anyone can imagine. There are many reasons why people resort to cutting, burning, or injuring themselves in other ways. People who self injure are not trying to kill themselves! Self mutilation is rarely understood disorder usually starts in adolescence and can be the result of depression, abuse or many other things.

Depression can lead to self mutilation because when someone is depressed they use hurting themselves as a way to fill a void. Without a way to express their sadness, they may say it by hurting themselves in a way of expression. Depression is also an opening to many other problems such as self mutilation and anorexia. Self mutilation and anorexia are related because a person tries to control something that they feel is necessary to be excepted.

People who were abused, and self injure, do it for many reasons. Some feel that it is the only was to express their pain, and it's a way that they can see, indead of feel, what's happened to them. Some self injure because it's the only way that they feel in control of something. By hurting themselves, they are in control of something that happens to them. It's the only way that they can feel in control.

Self injury is a way that some people deal with feelings. It doesn't mean that they want to die, but they need a release. Friends can help by understanding and being there. They're afraid of getting caught, but in the same light, sometimes they do.

All of these thoughts are my own and someone who is qualified to help someone with this disorder obviously knows a lot more. Visit the sites below for more info.
