All of my carvings are from basswood, or on the east coast, it is known as the Linden Tree. Basswood is ideal for carving because of its grain and texture. Good quality basswood is very light in weight and color. When you pick up one of my carvings, you will be surprised by how light it is in your hand. Most people pick up the carvings expecting them to be much heavier. When it comes to painting my carvings, I spend as much time with the details of the eyes and clothing as I do carving. Each carving is painted with acrylics and then sealed by taking a dip in linseed oil. To see more carvings go to: More Carvings by Dave
