Who’s There?

The time is getting closer to my actual departure date at the end of May. I continue to thank you all for your support and encouragement through emails, letters, coffee dates, and your replies to the support cards. It has shown me just how important keeping in contact is. It was also encouraging to see that in the first month of raising support, you faithfully gave almost $1,260. It is very humbling and exciting to see God work.

Last month, you had a quick glimpse into the country of Guatemala. I wanted to introduce to you the team that is established there through OC International.

SEPAL – Servicio Evangelizador Para América Latina – is a well-known ministry to the growing churches of Guatemala. The team itself consists of six active couples, three host missionary couples and one single lady. All the office staff has been involved with SEPAL for more than four years. There are several areas of ministry. Their monthly newsletter Notas al Pastor has been a great tool for informing local church leaders on what is available to them through SEPAL. One of the programs they have is PEB; a bible seminary program that teaches classes onsite. If you are interested in seeing more, check out their web site at: www.infovia.com.gt/Sepal

Allow me to introduce to you the Lengkeeks. While I am working on the field, I will be under the supervision of Gary and Nancy. They have been missionaries since 1976. They worked with the growing churches of Bolivia as church planters and summer team leaders. Their experience lead them to oversee the STEP program for OC. This is the summer team that I will be participating on as well as help coordinate for the summer of 2002.

Their desire for the summer STEP program is to focus on three “priority arenas.”

  • Full immersion into the new culture – get to know the sights, smells, sounds, etc.
  • Experience ministry opportunities – sharing one-on-one, kids clubs, giving testimonies, staying with local families
  • Be there for each other – help “STEPers” grow in faith, encourage daily devotions and journaling, stress the importance of prayer
Wow! Please pray for the team members I will be working with, both in SEPAL as well as the “STEPers” that may be questioning whether to STEP out in faith this summer. He does not choose to use us based on our ability, but on our availability.

Take care and God bless!
