Huddersfield Giants have signed Wests Tigers prop forward John Skandalis on
a two year contract. The 29 year old, who is 190cm and 107kgs, will join the
Giants for the start of Super League XII. Skandalis, who has made over 200
NRL appearances, played for Wests in the 2005 NRL Grand Final and this
season made his third appearance for the City Origin side in the recent City
v Country Origin game.
Giants Head Coach Jon Sharp said:
‘John Skandalis is a massive signing for this club, he is probably one of
the best uncapped props in Australia and he has the skills, experience and
physical presence to make a big impact on Super League. I am looking forward
to working with John and I am sure his experience as a Grand Final winner
will also be a very important factor in the development of our young
forwards’
John Skandalis said:
‘I'm already excited about making the move.
There were several English clubs interested in me, but the more I learned
about the Giants, the more I knew this was the right move to make.
I've known for some time they've been keen to sign me, so I've been keeping
a close watch on how they've been doing and I've seen several of their games
on television. I like what I've seen.
They've got a very talented squad and have everything in place to continue
to progress in Super League. I know I've made the right move and I'll be
proud to wear the colours.’
