Malta and Greece name starting 17

Mon Oct 03, 4:50am (NSW)
Written by: Anthony Micallef
Joe Grima (Malta) has named Malta’s starting team for this Saturday night’s International rugby league friendly at Fairfax Community Stadium (formerly Gabbie Stadium) at Seven Hills in Sydney’s west.

Sydney Roosters’ Shane Shackleton has been omitted from the squad due to club commitments, with a re-shuffle leading to Matt Zammit receiving the call up to the reserve bench.

The squad of seventeen will be unchanged for the tour to Malta, which will see the addition of two local based players join the squad for Malta’s October 22 fixture against England Lionhearts. The Malta Knights depart their Australian base on October 13.

Ex Cronulla Sharks’ Ben Sammut has been honoured with captaincy in the midst of inaugural captain Dallas Weston still nursing an injury suffered against Fiji A last October.

Greece’s coach Steve Georgallis has named English Super League hard man Michael Korkidas as captain for Greece. Korkidas will fly in from England for the clash that is expected to draw a strong crowd following Malta’s success over the past twelve months.

The night will be full of action, led by cheerleading performances by the Malta Knights’ own cheer girls from Elite Cheerleading. Miss Tabatha Borg will perform the Australian national anthem. Celebrities in attendance will include iron woman Candice Falzon and IBO Pan-Asia Pacific Champion boxer Adam Vella.

Pauly Fenech from SBS’ Fat Pizza will be a special guest.

2005 Miss Malta Knight Miss Rachel Muscat will be presented to the crowd before kick-off.

Malta Knights players will be signing autographs and meeting supporters at the League & Legends store at Blacktown Westpoint on Thursday 6th October from 7pm.
