Borders
I’ve been told that if I don’t have my borders ruler straight that my manga will not be able to be published by my on line distributor.

Wow. Where to begin?

First off, I am my on line distributor. Some people don’t realize that I am the guy that puts out just about everything on this web site. There are a bunch of Sumerians out there. I happen to be the most prolific.

Next, people will read this comic because they want an easily accessible way to read Sumerian mythology. My readers are scholars, but generally not academics (with the exception of those university students that use my page to help them understand Sumerian myths.) They want to understand the myths. They do not need to do all of the work taking a translation and making it understandable. They do not want to buy expensive books. They simply want to understand what the Dingir are all about.

Third, this isn’t a manga. Generally speaking a manga is an oriental comic that is translated and imported into the western world. Some manga reads right to left. Some manga reads left to right. It all depends on the originating language and how pretentious one wants to be. [editor's note: Yes, we are aware the art is sometimes flipped when localized for Western audiences] This format is closest to a western comic book.

As for the borders, that is a stylistic decision. If I had a professional artist, then they might use high quality paper, air brushes, color, and any number of things that I do not. Occasionally I do have perfectly straight borders. I use the line draw function on my computer. I can do it at any time. I happen to like drawing outside the lines however.

Finally, I have time constraints. I am in grad school. I have a baby. I have a social life. This comic is a labor of love. It is not a job. I don’t get paid. If I did get paid I would devote more time and more effort into the project. I could put out three months of updates in about a week without sacrificing quality if I did nothing else. That is never going to happen though.
