Australia With Sibille 2005
Sibille & I started in November 2005, flying into Darwin,(center, top), camping in Kakadu and Lichtfield Parks. Then we flew to Perth (southwest coast)and drove north to the Pinnacles area. We then flew to Adelaide (south coast). After sampling the fab market in Adelaide (a great little city) and doing the Barrossa Valley wine tour (Groovy Grape--good tour, small group), we took a ferry to Kangaroo Island which is a very cool place. Rent a car and spend three days minimum. Learn to slow down. Go on some hikes, check out the abundant wildlife, from koalas to sea lions, and try to stay in the lightkeeper's house at the Cape Borda lighthouse out on the East end. A$18 for a very sweet little stone hut right beneath the light. (If you're a really light sleeper, maybe not for you. The several-million candlepower light is about 70 feet above your head, and a good glow circles around the room all night.) I'll put some pics up of that if I can find them. Leaving Adelaide, we boarded the train The Ghan north to Alice Springs, did a 4-day tour around uluru (Ayers Rock), with Wayoutback tours. Good group--also small--eight were we? And a good guide, Todd. We finished by heading north on a two-day bus ride to Darwin. A month. Great trip.
