We were now in the SIERRA NEVADA DE MERIDA. This park was opened in 1952. Its major highlights are its paramo and also many beautiful lakes. The scenery is just breath-taking. The main entrance is at about the 3,500 meter mark. Therefore, the temperature can be pretty cold. The Transandean Highway leading to Colombia is really worth the drive.
