After a few days in Merida we headed back to Caracas, but we still had quite a bit of PARAMO scenery to absorb. We came back through Apartaderos and then went towards the highest paved road in Venezuela (over 4, 000 metres) at Paso Pico Aguila. Of course , the road is very winding as it can be seen here as we approached Timotes. The church is worth a visit. It is situated on Plaza Bolivar |
We were now getting closer to Valera but we still had a few kilometres left. And what a sight! As we got closer to La Puerta we had two roads to choose from. We took what was to be the most scary piece of road I had ever taken. The precipices were just out of this world. I had to stop every few minutes to dry the palm of my hands. But, as I look back, it was an experience that I will never forget. If I returned, I would probably take the very same route!!. |
