Chapter 1

It was July. My family had just moved to Tulsa from Miami. The first person I met was Ronnie. She lived next door and was my age, so we instantly became friends. One day Ronnie took me to a party at her boyfriend's house. She said that it would be good for me to meet some more people that would be in our grade, so I went. When we got to Marc's house, Ronnie introduced me to Zac, Marc's best friend. When I saw Zac, my heart melted. I instantly had a crush on him, but was way too nervous to do anything about it.

Later on at the party, Ronnie asked me what I thought of Zac.

"So, Zac's pretty hot, huh?"

"Oh yea!"

"I think he likes you."

"Me?"

"Yea."

"Why do you think that?"

"I've known Zac since we were five. Anytime he's had a crush on a girl, when he's around her he runs his fingers through his hair. Then he puts his hands in his pockets. He thinks it looks natural, but it doesn't. He did that today. Didn't you notice?"

"No, I guess not. I was too busy looking at his eyes to realize that he had other body parts."

"Do you want to get on his good side?"

"Yea."

"Say something like, 'Hey, Ronnie told me about the time that you were in Japan and you caught that snake. Could you tell me more about it?' He loves talking about that."

"Why was Zac in Japan?"

"Don't you know?"

"No. Why should I?"

"I thought the whole world knew about Zac."

"Knew what about Zac?"

"That he's Zac Hanson. Of the music group Hanson. You know, with his brothers Taylor and Isaac."

"Oh. My mom only lets me listen to Christain music, but she's considering letting me buy the Spice Girls' CD."

"Cool. Well, are you gonna talk to Zac or not?"

"I guess so."

So I went over to Zac.

"Hey, Zac."

"Oh, hi, Zel," he said with a blush.

"Ronnie was telling me about the time you caught the snake in Japan. Could you tell me more about it?"

"Sure. It all started when we were taking a walk in the woods..."

That's all I remember of what he said. I hate snakes. I can't even stand to hear about them.

"Hey, Zel," he said.

This was it, I knew it. "Yea," I answered.

"Could you come over to my house Saturday..."

Again, this was all I heard. Visions of me and Zac on the couch with a few candles came into my head.

"Sure, Zac!"

"Good, Jessie, Avery, Mac, and Zoe will love ya."

"What do they have to do with this?"

"Duh! It would help if the kids met their babysitter."

Gulp.
