Chapter 14

"Unfortunately, why?" asked Marc.

"Meet Taylor and I at Big Al's. You know that place?" asked Isaac.

"Yea."

"Okay. Go there now. We'll explain."

"Isn't Zac comming?"

"No. We'll explain why there. Bring Ronnie."

"Okay. See ya."

"Bye."

Isaac hung up the phone and turned to Taylor. "Come on. We're meeting Marc and Ronnie at Big Al's."

"Why Ronnie?" asked Taylor. Last year Ronnie and Taylor had gone out, but their relationship had ended in a bitter breakup. Now Taylor tried to avoid her as much as possible.

"She's Zel's best friend. She might be able to help. Taylor, you gotta get over it. Ronnie has."

"You're right."

"We'll take Mom's car."

"Can I drive?"

"Ask Mom."

"She'll say no because I don't have my permit yet."

"Then no. I'm not getting grounded for letting you drive."

"Please, Ike."

"No."

Isaac and Taylor got into the car and drove to Big Al's. Big Al's was one of the most popular teen hangouts, so it was pretty crowded. When they got there, Marc and Ronnie had already been seated at a table. They went over to join them.

"What's the dilly?" asked Marc.

"Marc, stop trying to be cool. You're not Busta Rhymes," said Ronnie.

"What's the story? Is that better, Ronnie?"

"Yes."

"What's the story?"

"Okay. Marc, you talked to Zac today, right?" began Isaac.

"Yea. He was pretty upset about Zel."

"Why was he upset? He dumped her," asked Ronnie.

"What do you mean?" Isaac asked.

"Zel got a letter from Zac that said he was dumping her for Jill."

"Now this makes even more sence. Zac got a letter from Zel that said she was dumping him for Taylor," Isaac explained.

"And I got a note from Zel that basically said she had the hots for me bad," said Taylor.

"She wouldn't have written either of those," said Ronnie.

"That's what we thought too," began Tay. "See, I like Zel, so when I got the letter I called her and asked her out and she said no."

"But then we were trying to figure things out and I saw the word Jill in very small letters on the back of both letters," said Ike. "But how would this Jill know about Taylor's crush on Zel?"

"Okay. Now it's my turn to fess up, even thought I had nothing to do with this," began Ronnie. "One day Zel was at yourt house helping Zac with albebra. Then she went to get Zac's notebook off the dresser, and she accideltly picked up Tay lor's journal because there were two black notebooks and that's what colour Zac's albebra book is. Well, she saw her name ans started reading one of the entries where you were talking about her. Then she showed Zac and she told me, and Zac told Marc. Then Zel wrote it in her journal, I mean who wouldn't? Then she accidently left her journal in her locker overnight, and she was sick the next day, and she shares a locker with Jill, so I guess Jill read it and wrote the letters to break them up because she really likes Zac."

"So that's how she knew!" said Taylor.

"Well, what should we do? We have to get them back together," said Ronnie.

"I have an idea," said Marc.

"That's a first," said Ronnie.

~*~*~

Zac was still laying in the den. Talking to Isaac had made him feel better, but not totally. He hadn't takled to Taylor all day, and he was curious hoe he was reacting to the letters. "Maybe he's going out with Zellary already," Zac said to himself.

"I need to talk to Taylor," Zac told himself. He festered up all the courage he could and walked to his bedroom. To his surprise, Taylor wasn't there and neither was Ike. "Maybe they went outside," he thought.

Zac walked down the stairs and out the back door. Taylor nor Isaac were there, but his mom was.

"Mom, have you seen Tay?"

"I think he went to Big Al's with Marc," was his mom's reply.

"Oh, thanks," said Zac and went back to his room. He, Tay, and Marc sometimes hung out, but never Taylor and Marc alone. "Great," thought Zac, "not only is he stealing my girlfriend, but he's stealing my best friend too."

~*~*~

"You never take me seriously!" said Marc after Ronnie's comment.

"Sorry, but sometimes you act like a dumb jock," Ronnie replied.

"But now I have a good idea."

"If it's so good, let's hear it."

"Okay," said Marc. "What we do it tell Zel and Zac everything. Then we write a note to Jill from Zac saying to meet him at Steven's Park. When she gets there, Zac will tell her about the note that he got from "Zellary" and that he thinks she's right, that Jill is the one for him. Then Jill's conscience will kick in and she'll confess the whole thing."

"Jill doesn't have a conscience," said Ronnie.

"Then we'll all come out from behind a wall or something and tell her that we know everything and talk to her about it."

"That might work," said Isaac.

"See, Ronnie, I do get good ideas."

"Okay. You had one good idea. But, you're still a dumb jock, and you always will be."

"Thank you."
