Chapter 4

"What is it?" I asked.

"Will you go out with me?" Zac asked nervously.

"Sure!" I replied.

"Okay. Good," Zac said sounding relieved.

"So, I'll see you whenever," I said. "Better yet, I'll call you tonight."

"Good," said Zac.

"Bye!" I said.

"Bye!" said Zac.

I started to walk home thinking about Zac. He was my first real boyfriend. The only other boyfriend I had was when I was three. His name was Simon. Basically, we had a sandbox relationship in preschool. I would come to school, he would tell me I looked pretty, and we would hold hands during the walk. The sad part was thet we actually thought we were in love.

As soon as I got home, I called Ronnie.

"Hello," she said answering.

"Hey, Ronnie. It's me."

"Oh, hey, Zel,"

"Guess what."

"What?"

"Zac asked me out."

"That's great! You did say yes, right?"

"Of course."

"Now you, Zac, Marc, and I can double date."

"Cool."

"Me and Marc are going to the mall. Do you and Zac wanna come?"

"Cool with me. I'll call Zac and then call you right back."

"Okay. See ya."

"Later."

I hung up the phone, then I picked it up again and dialed Zac's number. Taylor answered.

"Um, hello," he said.

"This is Taylor, right?"

"Um, yea. Who's this?"

"It's Zel."

"Oh, hey, Zel."

"Is Zac there?"

"Um, yea."

"Can I talk to him?"

"Okay. Hold on."

I waited about one minute before Zac answered.

"Hey, Zel!"

"Hi, Zac. Ronnie and Marc are going to the mall. Do you wanna go?"

"Sure."

"Okay. We'll be there in a few minutes."

"See ya then. Bye."

"Bye."

Then I called Ronnie back.

"Ronnie, we're comming. I'll be at your house in two seconds."

"Okay."

I walked to Ronnie's house. Then we walked to Zac's house. Then we walked to Marc's house. When we got to Marc's house, we got in his mom's car and his mom drove us to the mall.

"I'll be back to pick you up around 9:00. Meet me right here," said Marc's mom.

"Okay, bye, Mom!" said Marc.

"Where should we go first?" said Ronnie.

"Let's go to the toy store. I have to buy Jessie's birthday gift," said Zac.

We walked to the toy store and looked around. Zac finally decided to buy Jessie a Spice Girl doll. Then he couldn't decide which one to buy.

"Get Sporty," said Marc who was quite the jock.

"Get Emma. She's the best," I suggested.

"I can't get Emma because Tay has a major crush on her and we can't ever know what he'll do to it," said Zac.

"That's a good point."

"Geri will probably be worth some money in a few years," said Ronnie.

"We don't know what Mackie or Ike will try to do to it," said Zac.

"Okay. That leaves Posh, Sporty, or Scary," said Marc.

"She'd probably either like Posh or Sporty. Scary is just too scary," I said.

"Wait. I remember her saying that her favorite was the one with the little Gucci dress," said Zac.

"Okay then. That would be Sporty," said Ronnie sarcastically.

"Okay then, we're ready to check out," said Zac.

"Zac, you idoit, I was being sarcastic. She wants Posh."

"Oh."

Zac picked up a Posh Spice doll off the shelf and payed for it. Then we went to the music store.

"Zel, what CD's did you say you were buying?" asked Ronnie.

"Spicre Girls and Hanson," I answered.

"Ew. Hanson. Don't buy that CD, it's horrible!" Zac said.

"Very funny," I told him.

Just then a girl about our age ran up to Zac.

"Oh my god! You are Zac Hanson! I love you so much! Will you go out with me?" she screamed.

"Sorry, I already have a girlfiend," said Zac.

"Where is she? I'll kill her! Then you can go out with me!" she threatened.

"Hi, I'm Zellary," I said.

"Hi, Zellary. I'm Jill and I'm your worst nightmare," she said. "Where do you go to school?"

"I'll start at Franklin Middle School in the fall."

"Funny, that's where I'm going to go. I just moved here."

"Me too."

"You going to be in 7th grade?"

"Yes."

"Funny. So am I. Well remember, Zellary, my sole purpose on this planet is to make your life miserable."

"You have a good day too, Jill," I said. We walked away from Jill and payed for out CD's. Then we finished out shopping and left the mall. On the way home as the four of us were squished in the back seat of Marc's mom's car, I realized that I was one of the most envied girls in the world sitting so close to Zac that the sweat on our legs mixed and knowing that neither of us really minded.
