Chapter 5

Two months passed and it was time to go to school. The night before, I called Ronnie in a panic.

"Ronnie! What should I wear?"

"Zel, you've had your outfit for a month. I helped you buy it. Remember?"

"Yes, but that was a month ago. I think I gained some weight, because I look so fat in it. And what if it went out of style? Or what if I fall flat on my face because I can't walk in the platform shoes? Or what if you can see my underwear because the skirt is so short? Or what if people say that I'm such a Spice Girls poser? Then I'll never make the cheerleading squad, and I'll never make any new friends besides you, Marc, Zac, and the little 5th grade Spice Girl freaks."

"Zel, chill. Bring the outfit over to my house and I'll tell you how you look."

"Thanks, Ronnie. You're a lifesaver."

I found my pink skirt, white baby tee that says girl power in pink holographic, and white platform sneakers, put them in a bag, and walked to Ronnie's house. When I got to Ronnie's room, I went in her bathroom and changed into the outfit. Then I put my hair in pigtails and came out to show Ronnie.

"What do you think?"

"Did I help you plan the thigh stockings?"

"No. I found them in my drawer and decided they looked cute. But they must not be cute since you're questioning them, so they can go."

"No, Zel. They are cute. I just didn't remember them being part of the origional outfit. Cudos for adding them."

"Oh. Thanks. This outfit doesn't make me look as fat as Geri does it?"

"No. It makes you look as fat as Oprah pre diet plan."

"Oh my gosh! I have to get to the mall!"

"Zel, I'm kidding. You look fine."

"You sure?"

"Positive. And everyone dresses their own way at Franklin, so you're not gonna get made fun of."

"Okay. See ya tomorrow."

"See ya."

Then I went home and went to sleep. The next morning I got dressed, packed a lunch, grabbed my backpack, and met Ronnie at the bus stop. Soon the bus came and we rode to school. When we got to school, we found out the terrible news.

"Zel, we're in different homerooms."

"You're kidding?"

"No. I have Mr. Levitt and you have Ms. Patterson."

"Ronnie, this is horrible! What homeroom does Marc have?"

"I haven't seen him yet."

Just then Marc ran down the hall to ward us.

"Hey, ladies. What homerooms did you get?"

"Mr. Levitt."

"Ms. Patterson."

"Man! I got Mr. Robins. Well, see you two at lunch."

"Bye, Marc," we both said.

"Well, we better get to out rooms," said Ronnie.

"Yea. See ya at lunch."

"Bye!"

I walked down the hall to Ms. Patterson's room. When I got there, Ms. Patterson told me to take the last seat in the third row. When I sat down I looked to my right. Bad idea.

"Hello, Zellary! Funny seeing you here," said a ball of curly red hair and fake lepard skin otherwise known as Jill.

"Hi, Jill," I said.

"How funny we sit right next to each other."

"You planned this, didn't you, Jill?"

"What are friends for?"

"Funny, I don't remember us being friends."

"Bad memory? Early signs of alshimers. Oh no, I'm sorry, that's only for old people, Baby Spice."

Before I could say what I was thinking, Ms. Patterson made an announcment. (Thank you, Ms. Patterson)

"Class, you'll have to be choosing partners to share lockers with. I'll give you a few minutes to talk amongst yourselves."

After she said that, a pretty Oriental girl who was sitting to my left turned to me. Just as she was about to ask me, Jill of the Jungle opened her big mouth.

"Ms. Patterson, Zel and I will be partners!"

There was nothing I could do but bury my head in my hands.

"Is that okay with you, Zellary?" asked Ms. Patterson.

"Actually," I started, but Jill cut me off.

"Look at that face! Of course it's okay with her! It's more than okay, right, Zel?"

I just stared at her.

"See, she's speechless!" said Jill.

"Well, okay," said Ms. Patterson.

I turned to the Oriental girl to my left and mouthed, "I'm sorry."

"That reminds me," said Ms. Patterson. "We have two new students in our class. Girls, would you like to introduce yourselves?"

"I'm Jill Elm, I'm from Nashville, I like cheerleading and Hanson, and today I met my new best friend, Zellary."

"I'm Zellary Henninger, and I want to die right now."
