Chapter 10

After the punch, JC staggered backwards.

"What'd ya do that for, man?" he asked Josh.

"You're trying to steal my girl!" said Josh.

"She's my girl!" said JC and punched Josh in the stomach. Josh came back with a kick to the side. JC fell to the ground, but then unsteadily got back up again. JC then punched Josh in the head causing Josh to fall to the ground. Josh took a little longer getting up, but eventually he did.

"Guys, stop it. Someone's gonna get hurt," I pleaded.

"Stay out of this Nadine," said Josh. "I can take care of myself." Then Josh punched JC in the forehead. Josh was wearing his class ring, and I could see blood start to drip from JC's forehead. JC kicked Josh's legs out from under him and flipped Josh over. He landed on his back with a thud. Josh didn't move.

"Someone call an ambulance," I said. "This is getting out of hand." Natalie ran to the office.

Josh started getting up. He went over to JC and kicked him in the crotch. JC doubled over in pain. Josh then pushed JC to the floor, and JC landed with his leg at an impossible angle. JC was conscious, but he didn't move. After a moment he tried to stand up, but he failed and laid back down.

Since Josh knew his opponent could fight no kore, he sat down on the floor and began to let his pain show.

"Two times at the same place in one week! I think that's a record!" said Dr. Green entering. "What happened this time?"

"Those two got into a fight," I said and pointed to Josh and JC.

"Well, it doesn't look good. You guys are gonna have to go to the hospital," said Dr. Green.

They carried JC out on a streatcher, and Josh walked out slowly with the help of a paramedic. They both boarded the ambulance. I tried to get in too.

"Sorry, miss. Immediate family only," said Dr. Green.

"Oh, okay."

I went back into the mansion and looked for Natalie. I found her with Lance in the library.

"Nat, can I borrow your car? They won't let me in the ambulance."

"Sure. Here's the keys," she said and tossed me a ball of keychains.

"Think you have enough keychains, Nat?"

"I have every telescope since we were twelve, plus those twisty things we made in school, plus..."

"That explains it, thanks," I said and ran out to Nat's blue Neon. I started it up and followed the ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital. When I got there, I walked to the reception desk.

"Where's the ER?" I asked.

"Down that hall," the receptionist answered.

"Thanks," I said and walked down the hall. I came to another reception desk.

"I'm visiting Josh Jelison. Which room is he in?"

"He's one of the young man who just came in from the fight, right?"

"That's right."

"I'm sorry, but he can't have any visitors yet. You'll have to wait right over there," she said and pointed to a few rows of uncomfortable looking chairs.

"Thanks."

I sat down in the chair closest to the magazine rack. I picked up the latest copy of Seventeen and started reading. After reading a whole page about the advantages of flesh tone eye shadow, I put it down and picked up a newspaper. I put it down after I saw the words President Clinton.

"Excuse me, ma'am," said a man who came up beside me. "I head that you're involved in the fight between JC Chasez from 'NSync and Josh Jelison."

"I was there, yes."

"I'm Peter Jenks from Teen Beat, could you tell me what went on?"

"Well, basically they beat the crap out of each other over me."

"What do you mean by, 'over me'?"

"I was going out with Josh, but JC had a huge crush on me and he resented Josh."

"Do you know the medical condition of either?"

"I'm not sure, but I think JC has some cuts and bruises and a broken leg, and Josh probably just has some bruises and pains."

"And your name?"

"Nadine."

"Thank you, miss," he said and then left. Soon after that, Dr. Green came up to me.

"How are they doing?" I asked.

"Not so good. Josh has a possible back injury, and JC is unconscious and has a broken leg."

"When will I be able to see Josh?"

"You can go in now, but he's not very alert. He has to stay in a laying position," said Dr. Green and then led me to the room that Josh and JC shared.

"Josh, someone's here to see you," said Dr. Green as we entered.

"I don't wanna see the clowns! They scare me!"

"He's on medication," Dr. Green whispered to me. "There's no clowns, Josh. It's Nadine."

"Nadine!" said Josh and turned to see me.

"Don't move!" screamed the doctor and I at the same time, and Josh laid back down.

"I'll leave you two alone," said Dr. Green and left.

"How are you feeling?" I asked.

"I'm okay. My back hurts and I keep seeing pink bunnies, but other than that I'm fine."

"JC wasn't so lucky."

"What happened to him? I didn't even punch him that hard."

"He's unconscious and he has a broken leg. He lost a lot of blood from that gash on his forehead too.

"Oh," said Josh with some compassion. Just then we heard a scream st the doorway.

"JC, I brought you flowers and a teddy bear!" said someone and I looked over and saw a girl about seventeen years old with short blonde hair.

"He's unconscious, he can't hear you. He's not allowed visitors. If you want, you can write him a note and leave the stuff here for when he comes around," I said.

"Oh. Who are you?" she asked.

"I'm Nadine, a friend of JC's."

"But you just said he wasn't allowed visitors."

"I'm visiting my boyfriend," I said pointing to Josh.

"Oh. I'm Nicki," the girl said introducing herself.

Suddenly we heard a beeping. It was coming from JC's side of the room. We could see that he had regained consciousness. The beeping was the nurse buzzer that he had pressed.

"JC! You're okay!" said Nicki.

"Who are you?" asked JC.

"I'm Nicki, your biggest fan. I got you flowers and a teddy bear."

"Thank you," said JC.

"What's going on?" said Dr. Green who had jusy come in.

"I'm conscious again," said JC.

"Did you have to page me just to tell me that?"

"No, I have something to ask you too."

"What?"

"Can I have a piano to work on my jazz versions?"
