Chapter 4

"Two faces, playing with my trust in you. Cover all your traces. Watch me relax with you. Insidious, creep away and do your deal. Tell them what you think is you, couldn't be further from the truth. Ooh, keep them as a secret fool, you surely are. So you, blind to all the damage done. You go too far. Couldn't you have told me before? I would have loved you so much more. Couldn't you have told me before? Feeling like an outlaw."~Olive, "Outlaw"

"Lance?" said Natalie waving her hand in front of his face. "Hi!"

"Hi, Nat," said Lance coming out of his trance. "You must be Scott?" he said the the man standing behind her.

"Yeah, hi," said Scott in a harsh British accent.

"Nice to meet you," said Lance uncertainly.

"So, this is your house?" said Natalie stepping inside and looking around.

"Yeah," said Lance.

"It's...nice. Very homey."

"Yeah. I didn't want to make it too extravagant. Just a country home. So, you two probably wanna get to your room and rest. You've had a long flight."

"Yeah," said Natalie. "I think we're just gonna retire for the night so we'll be fresh tomorrow, right, Scott?"

"Yeah."

"Okay then," said Lance. "Here's your room." He lead them down a hall and opened the door to one of the rooms.

"Thank you," said Natalie laying her suitcase on the bed and opening it. She pulled out a skimpy lavendar satin nightie.

"Um, do you need any help unpacking?" said Lance feeling uneasy.

"No, I think we're okay," said Natalie.

"Okay then. I'll show you two around the house in the morning."

"Sounds good," said Natalie. "Good night, Lance." She walked over to him and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"Night, Nat," Lance said blushing. "Night, Scott."

"Yeah, you too," answered Scott with the same harsh tone. Lance left the room and went back to the kitchen. Even though he knew that Natalie's kiss was just a friendly jesture and it meant nothing, Lance couldn't help enjoying it emmensly.

"Was that Natalie?" asked Nadine as Lance returned to the table.

"Yeah," said Lance sitting down. "She and Scott just got here."

"And?" Nadine pestered.

"And what?"

"And was she happy to see you?"

"Yeah, I guess," said Lance embarrased that Nadine was doing this to him.

"Lance, is there something we should know?" asked JC with concern. "Why is Nadine pestering you like this?"

"Yeah man," said Joey. "I'm your best friend, you can tell me anything."

"This is between me and Nadine," said Lance defensively.

"Lance, do you still love Natalie or something?" Erica asked.

"Of course I love her. We were really good friends."

"James Lance Bass, you know that's not what I mean!" said Erica.

"Okay, but so what if I do?" Lance said starting to get a little bit angry. "So what if I still love her? We were each other's first love after all. She'll always have a special place in my heart. I can't help it that she went and married some jerk Brit!"

Everyone around the table stopped eating and stared at Lance. No one was used to seeing him vent like this.

"You mean Scott I guess?" said Justin.

"No, I mean her other British husband."

"Just asking man!"

"Sorry, Justin."

"Lance, why do you think he's a jerk?" asked Alyse.

"The whole time I was with them just then he said maybe two words to me. And they were just like 'yeah.' And what's worse, I think he rubbed off on Natalie! Dang, I'd almost rather she married a Backstreet Boy after meeting this guy!"

"Lance, I wouldn't go that far," said Chris.

"Okay, okay."

"Lance, why don't you wait until you spend more time with them before you make these judgments? They're both probably tired from the flight," said Rachel.

Lance thought about this. "Yeah, you're right. Thanks, Rach."

"No prob."

"I say we make a toast," said JC standing up and holding his glass out. "To a happy reunion of old friends."

"And making new friends!" said Justin standing and putting his glass near JC's.

"To good times!" said Chris joining them.

"And putting aside old conflicts," said Josh looking at JC with a smile.

"And old heart-breaks," said Joey looking at Yasmine.

"I'll toast to that," said Yasmine standing and joining the five guys.

"To having the power to not pass judgments," said Lance.

"And to a safe week," said Alyse. Everyone from Hawthorn agreed to that.

"To us!" said Nadine triumphantly.

"Yeah, to us!" they all agreed and clinked glasses.

Everyone participated in the toast that night with enthusiasm on the outside. But one person held very different feelings on the inside. One person at that table wasn't ready to just forget everything that had happened. One person still needed their revenge. And that person would get it...
