Chapter 2

"Do you believe in a love at first sight? Yes, I'm certain that it happens all the time."~The Beatles, "I'll Get By With A Little Help From My Friends"

The next few weeks passed by slowly for the Hansons, but finally it was summer. Schooling was done for the year, and the boys were ready for relaxing, swimming, movies, and all the other joys of summer, not to mention the family's annual vacation.

This year's destination was Wildwood, New Jersey. Wildwood was a small tourist town with a boardwalk and beach, similar to Seaside Heights. All the Hansons were excited. They had reservations at the Beach Terrace Motor Inn, one of the nicest hotels in Wildwood.

The only bad part of the trip was the drive to Wildwood. Let's just say that it was long. The Hansons had to take two vans and sleep in cheesy motorist hotels for several nights.

Finally on the third day of driving they pulled onto the Pennsylvania Turnpike signaling that they only had a few more hours of driving to go. Suddenly, the CB radio in Isaac's van cracked to life.

"This is the Shark calling Chewbaca," came Hanson's dad Walker's voice.

"Dad, must you use the annoying trucker names?" complained Isaac.

"Isn't it fun?" asked Walked.

"No!"

"Oh. Okay. We're going to this rest stop for gas and lunch."

"Dad, which resturaunt do they have?" yelled Zac from the back seat.

"Does it really matter, Zac?" asked Taylor. "You'll eat whatever it is."

"That's true," said Zac. "But I still wanna know what they have."

"They have Burger King, Roy Rogers, and Nathan's Hot Dogs, plus TCBY and Mrs. Feild's Cookies for desert."

"Thanks, Dad."

"So, Zac, what do you choose?" asked Taylor.

"Choose? Who said anything about choosing? I'm gonna have them all!"

"Oh, Zac."

The van came to the turn-off for the rest stop. Isaac found a parking space in the crowded parking lot and pulled in. Taylor, Zac, Isaac, and their six-year-old brother Mackenzie got out of the van.

"Food! Food! Food!" sang Zac jumping up and down.

"Guys, should we leave Wickit in the van?" asked Taylor. Wickit was the family's dog who was coming on vacation with them.

"He's not allowed in the rest stop. We gotta leave him here," said Isaac.

"Isn't he gonna like suffocate or something?" asked Taylor.

"We'll open a window," said Isaac. "He'll be fine."

After they opened a window for Wickit, they met their parents, Jessica, their eight-year-old sister Avery, and their baby sister Zoe at the enterence to the plaza.

"Okay," started Walker. "Since it's crowded and really hard to find a table for eight people and a baby, Ike and Tay, you two can be on your own in here."

"Dad!" exclaimed Zac. "What about me?"

"Zac, you're only thirteen," said Walker. "That's too young to be without an adult in a busy service plaza."

"But Ike's an adult!"

"That's a good one, Zac!" said Taylor laughing.

"Hey!" said Isaac.

"No offence, Ike," said Taylor.

"Just wait until you want something."

"Whatever."

"Dad, please!" begged Zac.

"No, Zac."

"I'll only spend ten dollars on food! This is expensive turnpike food too!"

"No, Zac. Isaac, meet us at the door in about fourty-five minutes. Here's some money for you and Taylor," said Walker.

"Thanks, Dad," said Isaac.

"So, Ike, where should we eat?" asked Taylor.

"Burger King?"

"Yup. I'm in the mood for a greacy burger."

The two brothers got in line at the Burger King counter. Taylor choose a Whopper with cheese and fries and Isaac selected a kids meal because they still had some Rugrats toys left. They sat down at the table farthest away from where their parents were sitting and ate their food. All was going well until Taylor noticed the Snapple vending machine.

"Ike, how the heck does that thing work?"

"I dunno. I guess the same as all the other vending machines."

"But the Snapple bottles are glass. Wouldn't they break?"

"I dunno, Tay. Try it."

"But I don't like Snapple."

"I do."

"What flavour should I get?"

"Surprise me," said Isaac, and Taylor stood up and went to the vending machine. A minute later he returned to the table proudly holding a bottle of peach~mango.

"How'd it work?" asked Isaac.

"Get your own Snapple."

"Tay, you dork, that is my Snapple."

"Oh."

"Well, how'd it work?"

"It just dropped. And you get to watch it drop. Ain't that amazing?"

"Yea, Tay, amazing."

"How come all anyone ever does anymore is mock me?"

"Tay, just forget it."

"Okay. Hey, Ike, what time is it?"

"We still got like fifteen minutes before we gotta meet them."

"Ice cream?"

"Okay. They got one of those good Hershey's stands."

The boys each got a cone of their favorite ice cream flavour. They stood near the ice cream stand leaning against the wall licking their ice cream. As Isaac was eating, he saw the most beautiful girl that he had ever seen in his life. She was about 5'4" with blond hair that came halfway down her back. Her eyes were a beautiful blue~green. She wore a blue skater tank top with a butterfly on it and short jean shorts.

Next to her stood a brunette girl about 5'2" wearing a hunter green short sleeve shirt with a v~neck that brought out the green in her beautiful eyes and khaki shorts. (credit for the description of Katie goes to KJW. she changed what I wrote, without my permission might I add, because she thought I made her character sound boring. personally, I think she made herself sound more boring, but if this is how she wants to be portrayed...)

"Tay, look over there," said Isaac and pointed to the blond girl.

"Wow!" exclaimed Taylor. "She's pretty!"

"Yea, well she's mine."

"Ike, you know you don't look right with brown haired girls."

"Brown haired girls? I want the blond one!"

"Oh good! I get the one with brown hair!"

"So should we go over there?"

"Yup," said Taylor. The boys looked over to where the girls were standing, but to their surprise they were no longer there.

"Where..." started Taylor, but then he saw the girls enter the bathroom. "Figures," he said. "Girls always gotta pee."

"Now how are we gonna talk to them?"

"How much longer until we haveta meet Mom and Dad?"

"About five minutes."

"Let's wait by that map for them to come out."

"Sounds good," said Isaac. They walked over to a huge map marked with the route of the turnpike, rest stops, hotels, etc. The map was conveniently located outside the door to the ladies' bathroom. Taylor and Isaac pretended to be checking the map for directions.

"Hey, Ike," said Taylor, "did you know that Days Inn gives out cute little kids fun boxes?"

"Actually, I did, Tay."

"Why don't we ever get them?"

"Read that, Tay," said Isaac pointing to some words on the map.

"For kids eight and under only."

"How old are you, Tay?"

"Sixteen."

"Just slightly too old."

"Only twice as old as the age limit."

"Oh, that's not that much at all."

"You're mocking me."

"You make it so easy."

"Hey!"

"Tay, this is pathetic."

"Yes, it is."

"Some hot girls go into a bathroom and we wait for them to come out and pretend to read a travel map."

"You're right, pathetic."

"We don't need girls in our lives."

"No we don't."

"They just use up your time and money."

"And we spent all of that on the "Weird" video."

"I say we forget about those girls and go out and meet Mom and Dad."

"They'll respect us for bring early."

"So let's go!"

"Yes, let's go!"

Neither of them moved.

"Those girls were really hot," said Isaac.

"Oh, yea!"

"They had to go in the girls' bathroom, didn't they?"

"Bummer."

"Hey, Tay, a lot of people say you look like a girl."

"Yea, but...No. Ike, get that smile off your face. These ideas of yours are always dangerous. Ike, no!"
