Chapter 4

"I met you one summer and it all began."~LFO, "Summer Girls"

At four-o-clock the two vans of Hansons pulled into the parking lot of the Beach Terrace Motor Inn.

"Doesn't look like one of the nicest hotels to me," said Taylor looking up at the modest eight story building.

"Tay, did you see the other hotels?" asked Isaac. "They were all even more generick looking than the ones we stayed in on the drive up here. Compared to them, this is the Plaza!"

"Well, I guess it does look kinda homey," said Taylor trying to look on the bright side of things.

"Guys, did you see the mini marts?" exclaimed Zac. "They're called WaWa! How cute is that?"

"The greatest, Zac."

"I wonder if they have Little Debbie cakes any cheaper here than at home?"

"Zac, is all you're gonna do on this trip eat?" asked Taylor. "Cause if so, when we get home you're gonna haveta go on a diet."

"Sorry," said Zac, "but not all of us can be stick thin like the lovely Taylor."

"Hey!

"Boys, stop it," said Walker.

"You mean girls," said Zac and pointed to Taylor.

"Zac, watch it!" said Walker. "Do you wanna be grounded on vacation?"

"Okay, okay, I won't call Taylor a girl."

"That's more like it."

The Hansons cheched in and went to their rooms to unpack. Taylor, Isaac, and Zac were in one room, and the rest of the family was in the neighboring one.

"Hey, guys, check out the view!" said Taylor walking out onto the balcony.

"Wow!" said Isaac. "You can see all of Wildwood!"

"And look at the pool," said Taylor pointing to the hotel's swimming pool.

"Do you wanna swim?" asked Isaac.

"I'm up for it," answered Taylor.

"Zac, do you wanna go to the pool with us?" yelled Isaac to Zac who was putting his brightly coloured clothing in drawers.

"No thanks," said Zac. "I'm gonna check out the WaWa and then the boardwalk food joints."

"Why does this not surprise me?" asked Taylor.

"Because I'm the best eater in the family."

"That's right."

Isaac looked across the balconies.

"Tay, it's her!"

"Ike, where?" answered Taylor.

"There! On the balcony down the hall!"

Taylor looked down the row of balconies. The only people he saw were an elderly couple.

"Ike, are you in love with that old lady or something?

"No, Tay, the girl from the rest stop was on that balcony."

"Then where is she now?"

"She must have gone back inside the room."

"Ike, you're just seeing things. Besides, it was probably a different girl, if there was a girl at all. You saw the chick for a total of thirty seconds in the rest stop. You couldn't possibly remember what she looked like that clearly."

"Whatever, Tay. She was there. Let's just go to the pool."

The boys got ready to go to the pool and then took the elevator down to the third floor. They walked into the pool area and set their towels down on a lounge near the pool. Ike looked around the pool.

"Tay, try to tell me that that isn't them," Isaac said and pointed to two girls laying face down on lounges. One had brown hair, and one had blond.

"It does kinda look like them."

"And didn't I see the blond one on the balcony earlier?"

"You say that you did."

"And they were on the Turnpike. They could have been coming here."

"Well, Ike, if you're so sure that those are the girls, go over there and flirt with them."

"Okay."

"I can't wait to see you make a fool of yourself in front of them, Ike."

"Then I guess if those are the girls you won't want to be introduced to the one with brown hair?"

"Well..."

Ike walked over to the girls' lounges. He took a moment to think of something to say, and then in a fake Southern accent he said, "Excuse me, miss, but you must be from Tenessee because a ten is all I see."

The brown haired girl giggled, and the blond said, "Ah, cheesy pick up lines! What fun! But that always was one of my favorites."

She turned herself over so that she was facing Isaac.

"Oh my..." she stuttered and then came back with, "I love you."

Isaac noticed something about her that he hadn't noticed before at the rest stop. "You have a eyebrow ring."

"I better," she said. "It hurt enough getting it done."

"I mean, I didn't notice it in the rest stop when I saw you."

"You saw us in the rest stop?"

"Yea, me and my brother saw you two and fell in love."

"Fiona, are you still talking to that goon who used the cheesy pice up line?" said her friend from the neighboring lounge chair. She still hadn't turned over or realized what was going on.

"Katie, do you have the slightest idea who I'm talking to?" asked Fiona.

"No, but whoever it is interrupted my nap."

"It's no one important, Katie, just go back to sleep," said Fiona with a joking smile on her face. Isaac couldn't help but laugh.

"Okay, Fiona. Wake me up when we have to meet your parents."

"I'll do that," said Fiona.

"So," Isaac continued, "me and Tay were in the rest stop and we say you guys and..."

"Did you just say, 'Tay?'" said Katie suddenly interested. She turned over and finally realized who Fiona had been talking to. Then she saw that Taylor was with Isaac and blushed. Taylor also blushed.

"Hi," said Katie.

"Hey," said Taylor.

"Well, do y'all wanna go get something to eat?" asked Fiona. "There's this one really cute little cafe on the boardwalk where you can actually get Coke in a bottle."

"Okay, let's go," said Isaac. "Tay, you comin?"

"No, um, I'm just gonna hang around here for awhile."

"Me too," said Katie.

"Okay," said Isaac. "We'll see ya!"

"Bye."

Isaac and Fiona got into the elevator and rode to ground level, still in their bathing suits. They went onto the boardwalk and started walking in the direction of the cafe.

"Fiona, I know I haven't known you for very long, but I think I love you," said Isaac.

"I've known you for two years, well, at least I've seen you on TV and stuff, and I've loved you for all that time. Now that I know you in person, I just love you even more."

Then with the waves of the Atlantic Ocean crashing in the background, they looked into each other's eyes and engaged in a long pationate kiss in the middle of the boardwalk.
