Chapter 7

"Now is the time for us to reunite."~*NSYNC, "Here We Go"

The plane ride had gone smoothly, but Isaac wondered what Quinne had tried to tell him as he was getting on the plane. It must not have been anything too important, or Quinne would have made sure to tell him. Oh well, he'd find out what it was when Quinne e~mailed him.

When he arrived at the Pittsburgh airport, he collected his bags and took a cab to the Penn State dorms. At the dorm, he checked in with the woman at the reception desk and went to his room, number 329. The woman had told him that his roomate had already checked in and would probably be in the room already.

He was. When Isaac put his key in the lock and turned the knob, he was faced with a boy about his age with dyed blond curly hair. As Isaac looked at him more, the boy began to look familiar. Then Isaac realized who he was.

"Hi, I'm Justin Randall Timberlake," said the boy and stood up to shake Isaac's hand.

"I'm Isaac. Aren't you that guy from *NSYNC?"

"Yup, that's me. You're from Hanson, aren't you?"

"Yea. They probably put us in the same room so girls wouldn't mob us or anything."

"You mean girls still mob you? I thought they'd all moved on to liking me."

"Oh, well, yea. Girls still mob us. Just not as much as before."

"Hey, I hope you don't mind, but I already took the bed with the baby blue comforter. Baby blue is my favorite colour."

"Sure, no problem," replied Isaac. "Have you unpacked your stuff yet?"

"Some of it. I still have to find room for my sneaker collection and the pictures of my mommy. I only brought two albums. I had to leave some really good pictures behind."

"What a shame," said Isaac sarcastically, but Justin didn't seem to realize it was a joke. Justin started walking toward the bedroom, and Isaac followed.

"The walls are white. I'll have to have my people see about getting them painted baby blue. Don't you think that would be nice?" asked Justin.

"Sure, whatever," said Isaac who was already starting to think that Justin was a self~centered momma's boy.

"Hey, Isaac, wasn't that your name?"

"Yup."

"Can I call you Ike?"

"Sure."

"Ike, do you mind is I hang this up?" asked Justin and pulled out a larger than life poster of him and who Isaac assumed was his mother.

"No, go ahed."

"Thanks. That's my mommy. I love her."

"That's nice."

"I'm thinking about dying my hair red."

"You do that."

"I know what we can talk about!" said Justin. "Girls!"

"Sounds great," said Isaac, and Fiona instantly came to his mind.

"Have you heard of Britney Spears?"

"Who hasn't?"

"Well, she's my girlfriend. We lie to the press and keep it on the d~low, but really we've been going out since we were on The Mickey Mouse Club. What about you, Ike, do you have a girlfriend?"

"Well, no, not really," said Isaac and again Fiona came to mind.

"There sounded like there was some hidden meaning behind that. Do you wanna talk about it?" asked Justin, and Isaac was impressed that Justin had thought in intelligent thought about something other than himself, his mom, Britney Spears, and baby blue.

"Well, there was this girl that I met at the beach over the summer, but we agreed to just be friends. Besides, we'll never see each other again."

"That's what Sandy and Danny thought, and they ended up going to the same school."

"There's no chance of that happening, she's just a freshman in high school."

"You could be arrested, man!"

"No, Justin, it wasn't like that. We didn't do anything like that."

"Or at least that's what you'll tell the press. C'mon, we're buds. You can tell me."

"Justin, honestly, we didn't. She's only fourteen!"

"Whatever."

"I think I'm gonna go out and see the town. Do you wanna come?"

"Nah, I've been away from my mommy for over five hours. I gotta call her."

"Okay. I'll be back later."

"Bye!"

Isaac put on a jacket and left the dorm. He walked past the other dorms and out of the campus. Across the street was a shopping center, so he decided to see what was there.

He crossed the street and the first store he saw was Borders. He remembered Taylor telling him about this place. It was a huge book store that also sold CD's and had a coffee shop. It seemed pretty cool, so he decided to go in.

When he walked into the store he realized that they easily had millions of books. They had a large music section too. Then he saw the coffee shop. There was also a small stage set up, and on the stage was a girl sitting on a stool singing and playing an acoustic guitar. He walked over to the coffee shop and sat down on one of the arm chairs that were set up.

The girl had dark brown hair and blue~green eyes. She was wearing a yellow tank top and yellow and blue Hawaiian print board shorts. Her eyebrow was pierced, and she was singing Jewel's "Absence of Fear". After a few measures, Isaac decided that she had a very good voice and wondered why she wasn't a professional singer.

Isaac looked around the area, and his gaze stopped on a familiar looking brown haired girl. He soon realized that she was Fiona's friend Katie. There was an empty chair beside her, so he walked over and sat down in it.

"Hey, Katie," he said casually.

Katie turned and looked at him. "What are you doing here?" she asked.

"I'm going to college here. What are you doing here?"

"I go to all of Fiona's gigs."

"Wait, Fiona's gigs? You mean that's Fiona?"

"Yup."

"She looks so different! I didn't even recognize her!"

"She does look different with brown hair. She got tired of blond hair, so she just dyed it. And she's been wearing a different eyebrow ring which for some reason maked her look different."

"Hey, Katie, I got the drinks," said a blond boy who walked up to Katie with three drinks in his hands. He was with a girl with strawberry blond hair. The boy set the cups down on the table and then became aware of Isaac's presence. "Katie, what are you doing hanging around with a Hanson?" he asked.

"He's my friend," Katie said. "Isaac, this is Max ans Lindsay."

"Let me guess, you're Fiona's boyfriend," said Isaac to Max.

"No, I'm Britney Spears's boyfriend," said Max. Isaac chuckled at that since he knew the truth about who Britney's boyfriend was.

"You'll have to excuse Max, he has his head in the clouds." said Katie. "Actually, Fiona doesn't have a boyfriend. She hasn't since you teo broke up," Katie said with a hinting tone in her voice.

"She still talks about you all the time," said Lindsay.

"Wait, you know Fiona?" asked Max, confused.

"He's new. He doesn't know the story," said Katie. "Max, let's just say that Ike and Fiona go way back, and I'll tell you the story later."

"Okay," said Max.

"So you're saying that I should ask her out again?" asked Isaac.

"You never should have broken up in the first place," said Katie. "Look, she's singing "Wishing I Was There". That's always her last song. When she gets off stage, go and talk to her."

"Okay."

The four of them watched and waited as Fiona finished the song.

"Thank you all, you've been a great audience. I'll see ya next time," said Fiona and started taking her guitar off and walking off stage. Isaac walked over to her.

"I didn't know you sang," Isaac said, and Fiona turned around in surprise.

"Isaac, what the heck are you doing here?"

"Well, I'm going to college at Penn State, I moved into the dorm today, my roomate is a jerk, I needed to get away, I saw this place, I came in, I saw you preforming, I didn't realize it was you until I saw Katie and she told me, she said I should talk to you, so here I am."

"That was the longest sentence I've ever heard."

"That was the short version," he said. "You didn't answer my question. Since when do you sing?"

"I don't call what I do singing. I just get up there and wail."

"Well, you're a good wailer."

"Thanks," she said and picked up her guitar case.

"So, what have you been up to lately?" he asked.

"Absolutely nothing."

"How come your boyfriend didn't come to hear you sing?"

"Because I don't have a boyfriend."

"Why not?"

"I think you know than answer to that question."

"Oh, I don't think I do."

"You wanna know do ya? Well, Isaac Hanson, the answer is you! You're the reason that I don't have a boyfriend. You've scarred me for life."

"Oh, don't pull a Brian on me. How did I scar you?"

"I didn't know you watched Road Rules."

"I do. That's not the point. How did I scar you?"

"We both knew that we were ment to be, but that night on the beach you somehow convinced me and yourself that we weren't."

"I was just working that old black magic."

"Yea, well work that old black magic one more time in a positive way or I'll work some of mine and see to it that you die a slow and horrible death like the one that I've died since you left me."

"That sounds likie a come on."

"Good, cause it is," she saod and grabbed his shoulders, pulled him close, and kissed him.

"Oh, must you two do that? We're in public!" said Max.

"Oh, Max, shut up!" said Katie. Isaac and Fiona broke apart, the five of them left the store, and all was well.

Well, almost...
