Metal Slug: 1st Mission -- a review by slug
With Metal Slug: 1st Mission one of the best SNK Games comes to the Neo Geo
Pocket. There is much to say about this Game, but the first I must tell you
is that itīs definitly one of the best Games you can play on your NGP. Here
are the details:
Graphics - A
The Graphics of the most NGP Games are good, but the Graphics of Metal Slug
are the best I have seen on this system yet. There are a lot of Levels in
the Game, and no one is like the Other. The background graphics are very
colourful and they all look as good as possible.
In some cases, soldiers come out of a door or look out of a window and begin
to shoot at you and in an Underground Passage there are lamps in the
background(you will see very good lighting effects). But now to the game
sprites. Like in other NGP Games not many Colors were used for the
Charakters, but they look very detailed and there are a lot of funny
animations. One example are the idle animations of your charakter like
waving to the camera. They are very funny. There is really a lo to explore.
The only negative thing I know about the Graphics, is playing the Game on an
black and white NGP. I havenīt one, so I can only say what I have heard: The
graphics can be very hard to see in some cases and objects seem to blend
together. So you have to understand the A as an assessment for the NGPC and
not for the black and white NGP.
Sound - B+
There isnīt much to say about the sound. Itīs high quality with good sound
effects. But the best are the background tunes. They are really great. You
must hear them.
Gameplay - A+
Even if Graphics and Sound are really good, the best of the Game is the
Gameplay. Fighting through the jungle or driving the Metal Slug, escaping
from the prison camp or shooting on helicopters, itīs really fun to play
this Game. The different difficults make the Game playable zo everyone, and
many details also make it replayable. After you have beaten the Game the
first time, you can choose a new female character. There are multible paths
in the Game, if you want to see all Levels, you have to play the Game
several times. Also you can improve your combat ranking(there are 24
different ranks available), so you will play it many times.

This Game is great. You must play it. You must buy it.
