Seventh Generation

42. Charles7 Finney (Samuel8, John9, John10, John11, William12, John13 Fienes, Richard14 Finies, Roger15 Fynes, William16 Fines, William17 Fienes, John18) was born in Wilmslow?, Cheshire 1682 (1687?). Charles died July 16, 1750 Philadelphia, PA, at 68 (62?) years of age.

He married Elizabeth (Tregony) Uren, who was his step-sister by virtue of his father’s second marriage to Elizabeth’s mother, Elizabeth (Braine) Tregony.  She was the widow of Joshua (or John?) Uren.

He emigrated, c1699/1701 with his father from Fulshaw (Wilmslow), Cheshire, England.  They are believed to have accompanied William Penn on his second and final voyage to America.  At 25 years of age Charles became the father of Elizabeth Finney 1707. At 26 years of age Charles became the father of Mary Finney 1708. At 33 years of age Charles became the father of Richard Finney 1715. At 37 years of age Charles became the father of Henry Finney in Philadelphia, 1719. At 38 years of age Charles became the father of William Finney 1720. At 39 years of age Charles became the father of Mary Finney May 30, 1722. He resided in Oxford, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania where in 1734, he is recorded as having owned 200 acres.  He buried at Trinity Episcopal Church (www.trinitychurchoxford.org ), in the Oxford section of Philadelphia. His tombstone engraving reads: "here lieth the body of CHARLES FINNEY who departed this life aged 68 years." He is buried alongside his wife Elizabeth, whose tombstone reads: "here lieth the bodyof ELIZABETH FINNEY who departed this life Oct. the 14, 1748 in the 66th year of her age."

Charles Finney and Elizabeth Tregony had the following children:

child43 i. John6 Finney. He was baptized April 9, 1721. He is not mentioned in his father's will. He apparently is a twin brother to sister Hannah, given the same baptism date.

child44 ii. Hannah Finney. Hannah died August 28, 1746. She married Capt. Hugh Tresse.

She was baptized April 9, 1721. Apparently a twin sister of John, since their baptism dates are the same. Note her death date is only two and a half weeks after her sister Rachel's death.

child45 iii. Rachel Finney. Rachel died August 9, 1746. Died unmarried. Note her death date is only two and a half weeks prior to her sister Hannah's death.

child46 iv. Elizabeth Finney was born 1707. Elizabeth died May 26, 1781 at 73 years of age. She married twice. She married Joseph Todd. She married an unknown person in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, December 13, 1732.

child47 v. Mary Finney was born 1708.

child+ 34 vi. Richard Finney was born 1715.

child48 vii. Henry Finney was born in Philadelphia 1719. Henry died September 9, 1744 in Oxford, Philadelphia County, at 25 years of age. He married Hannah Brown in Philadelphia, October 25, 1739. No children.

child49 viii. William Finney was born 1720. William died April 3, 1751 at 30 years of age. Died unmarried. He is buried alongside his parents, with his tombstone reading: "here lieth the body of WILLIAM FINNEY departed this life the ___ of April 1751 in the 31 year of his age."

child50 ix. Mary Finney was born May 30, 1722. Mary died June 14, 1751 at 29 years of age. She married John Bringhurst. Note that she died at age 29, only a month and a half after her brother William died at age 31.
