The sport's fanatics Party

Theme

This party doesn't have to be just for a birthday party. I am sure many of you mom's and dad's out there tote your kids around to all their different sport functions. If you have multiple kids then you do it a lot. You also know that at the end of the season there is almost always an end of season party. I think that the kids sometimes look forward to this more than they do the games! Well that and the after game snacks. It can be used for the end of season parties as well as a birthday party theme for that sports fanatic.

Menu Ideas

Pretty simple menu. Hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. Cook-out type of menu is good for this type of party. Chips and different things to munch on like that. I can't really think of any foods that are sports related. You could always serve Gatorade or some other sports drink but I don't know how well that will go over with the kids. If anyone has any ideas on sports related beverages (or any other ideas on any theme) feel free to contact me.
Of course with this one there is the cake that is decorated like that sport. My son's first soccer season I purchased a cake that was decorated like a soccer field. The kids loved it. They have cakes to fit all the different sports. There really isn't much to add to this menu, because I really can't think of anything that would be just sport related. You could serve Gatorade instead of punch but I don't think that you really want to do that.

Decorations

There are lots of decorations out there with the different sports on the. Banners, napkins, plates, etc. If you are doing one specific sport you can also concentrate on the colors of that ball.
Much like the cake thing, the stores are also stocked with plenty of banners, napkins, plates, cups, etc. for the sports. You should have no problem finding decorations for this. You may want to make a neat little display for the table - if it is a birthday party you would get some poster board and cut and color it like that sport ball. Then cut out the middle and put your child's picture in it. If it is an end of season party you can put the team picture in it. This would make a nice little keepsake at the end of the party for the coach.

Games

This should be simple enough. Have relay races with that sport ball. If it is soccer - have them do races for dribbling the ball across the yard. If it is basketball they can dribble the ball down the drive, etc.
Have the kids show athletic they really are - have a egg in a spoon race. Those are lots of fun.
Pinanata in the shape of a ball for that sport.
You can get medals at party supply stores that are fairly cheap. These can be given for winners of relay races.
A paint ball war is fun for kids - of course you want to make sure that these kids are a little older.
Have a yo yo contest. You can get some yo-yo's pretty cheap and have enough for all the kids. See who can do it the longest, who knows more tricks, etc. They get to keep the yo-yo as part of their goodie bag!
