Michiru made her first real appearance in SMS as Sailor Neptune. She worked closely with Tenno Haruka/Sailor Uranus and both were very dedicated to their mission. Though the two mysterious soldiers often helped the inner senshi in battling or defeating a daimon, the two groups were never on the same team, even after "the mission" was completed. The mission was to collect three talismans in order to create the "Sacred Cup" or otherwise known as the Holy Grail. The talismans, as it happens, were sealed into the pure hearts of Sailors Neptune (the Deep Aqua Mirror), Uranus (the Space Sword) and Pluto (the Garnet Orb). Pluto joined the other two after the first mission was completed. After the mission was completed, the trio set themselves at a new task: finding the Messiah. The messiah turned out to be Super Sailormoon. In the anime, the outer senshi did not appear at all in SMSuperS. (In the manga, the outers made an appearance at the end of SMSuperS to help the inners defeat The Amazoness Quartet, Zirconia and Nephrenia.) In the anime, the Outers did come back in time for SMStars when they helped finish off Nephrenia (those few episodes were designed to bring the outers back into the plot line) and were seen throughout the rest of the season. Later when the outers go up against Galaxia, Neptune and Uranus come up with an ingenious plan to finish the Golden Senshi. By pretending to turn against the other senshi, Neptune and Uranus accept Galaxia's golden bracelets and give up their starseeds to become Sailor Anima-mates. In order for their plan to work, the other senshi had to truly believe that Neptune and Uranus were traitors, so under the command of Galaxia, Amima-mates Neptune and Uranus took the starseeds of Pluto and Saturn, killing them. When ordered to take the remaining senshi's starseeds, Neptune and Uranus suddenly turned on Galaxia and tried to take her starseed instead. They made a direct hit, but unfortunately, it turns out that Galaxia doesn't actually have a starseed (because it was released in the form of Chibi-Chibi [see: Chibi-Chibi]). Galaxia was impressed with Neptune and Uranus' cleverness, and was surprised by their ability to be unaffected by her golden bracelets, but nonetheless, she took the bracelets away and Neptune and Uranus died, holding hands.
