Intro to Liwa

It was a cold 0700 start from Umm Suqiem Spinneys, with one pull-out we were basically off on time waiting only for Alan to fill up, and soon heading down Sheikh Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi.

We were one of several groups heading down to the Empty Quarter for some off roading during the Eid Holiday. Our group consisted of Passy, (SWB Patrol), Geert, (Jeep Cherokee), Jet (Land Cruiser), smug (Pathfinder), Ajay (LWB Patrol), Stefan (Prado) and myself (Defender 90).

By 0900 we were leaving the ADNOC fuel stop on the Abu Dhabi – Al Ain Road and heading due south into the area east of the Humeem Road with a plan to drive on a route that I had done previously and further south using waypoints from 2005 Desert Challenge Day 4.

After deflating we continued on some sand tracks for a few Km west before turning south once more to enjoy a more off piste sand driving experience.

We had a brief stop when the bash plate on Jet’s Land Cruiser came loose and some off road repairs were carried out.
