Intro to Liwa page 2

We carried on until around 1300 when we stopped for lunch having spotted many gazelle grazing in the area, although they soon ran away on our approach making photography challenging.

We had plans to meet up with Alen Thong’s group at a waypoint near PC4 of Day 4, and at this stage we were planning to drive part of the Day 4 route round to PC4 which was 70+ Km. However in a straight line to the campsite it was around 25 Km, so no argument there we straight lined it.

Coming over a small ridge I popped into a small bowl, but managed to drive out and relayed instruction to keep a couple of car widths to my left. Unfortunately Jet took that as car lengths and landed in a similar bowl resulting in a recovery that bent his front hook.

We soon hit some tracks that took is almost to the petrol station at Humeem where we filled up and then headed to the camp site across a rather challenging set of dunes where Geert had some refusals in getting out of a bowl. At the campsite there was no sign of Alen Thong’s group and we managed to contact them by phone and get their position which was some 50Km from ours as they had only managed 20 Km off road that day, we had done around 120!
