History of the Night:
Calmer* was born from the frustrated being that is Martin Williams in 2002. He decided to stop moaning and create his perfect night out. Emma Parker took over the reins in 2005 and has been nurturing the little beast ever since. Here to bring the antidote; a real alternative. Here to bring acts that we truly love to the most wonderful, respectful audience. Here to put Cheltenham on the map. Experimental, acoustic, off kilter and, always, entertaining acts. We put on shows about every three weeks packed full of the best sounds, experiences and performers in the whole wide world. Mostly held in Slak but sometimes in different venues. Articulate acoustic angels, back porch drawlers, melancholic folk sirens, hungover hillbillies, smoking jazz queens, experimental electronicas, burlesque beauties, whisky drinking bluesmen, piccolo playing pixies, circus whores and each show is carefully programmed with so much love it's sometimes quite painful.

Typical Acts:
Calmer* is somewhere articulate with new and innovative acts, a fair share of americana artists, a fair share of alternative folk artists and a big share of experimental artists that are prepared to push the boundaries. Calmer* is somewhere reflective that dare not follow the mainstream. Somewhere that takes a chance of two. Past performers include: Baby Dee (Antony and the Johnsons), Josephine Foster, Marissa Nadler, Paul Curreri, Devon Sproule, Scott Matthews, Curtis Eller's American Circus, Thomas Truax, Richard James (Gorky's Zygotic Mynci), Soft Hearted Scientists, James Blackshaw, Danny Schmidt, A Hawk and A Hacksaw, Jana Hunter, The Wiyos, Mi and L'au, Flipron, Charlie Parr, Misterlee, Edd Donovan, Men Diamler.. If Calmer* was a festival, it would be the Greenman festival, with a bit of an acoustic stage thrown in and a sprinkling of the crazy world of Lost Vagueness.

Venue & Tickets:
Calmer* is noramlly held at Slak in Cheltenham although this sometimes changes. Tickets for Calmer* gigs can be puchased from www.wegottickets.com, or are available from Badlands or bought on the door.
