Who Are You: Karine Polwart: a BBC Award winning singer-songwriter from the Scottish Borders blending folk-roots and indie influences. My current album “Scribbled in Chalk” combines the economy and universality of the folk storytelling tradition with a questioning intellect and compassionate lyricism. I'm not exactly shy of tricky subjects - twentieth century genocide, TV executions and sex trafficking - but that doesn't mean I put on a depressing gig. You can expect some banter too as well as wistful musings upon the beauty of the night sky, comic tales of lovelorn gas installers and wry observations on the links between cosmetic dentistry and global domination too. Recently I was a co-writer and guest vocalist on Idlewild frontman Roddy Woomble’s album “My Secret is My Silence” and I'll feature, alongside members of Belle and Sebastian, on the forthcoming album release by Glasgow indie collective Future Pilot AKA.

Why Should We Come and See You: Come and see The Karine Polwart Band (double bass, drums, percussion, guitars, accordion, drone box and loads of vocal harmonies) if you fancy a night of songs that might make you think, cry, laugh. It's a sit down listening gig but you'll get the feeling you're in the presence of musicians who don't just get up and play the same gig every night and who actually talk to you too.

For Fans of / Sounds Like: For fans of quality songs that say something.
