Dreaming of Midori

-Three Years Earlier-

These type of days were perfect. Summer with nothing to do. They didn’t feel like going out of town for vacation. They couldn’t anyway. Their jobs couldn’t allow them enough vacation time yet. But, it didn’t matter to them. They were just happy to be with other for the summer in the sleepy town they had come to realize wasn’t so lonely anymore. Naoko reached up to the sky.

“Do you have to work today?” he asked. Midori smiled as she shook her head.

“Nah,” she said. “Do you?”

“No,” he said.

“So what should we do?”

“Nothing.”

Midori-chan gave him a confused. “Nothing?”

Naoko crawled on top of her. “Yeah.” He shared a quick kiss with her. She happily kissed him back. They had been dating for three months. Ever since that boring party they escaped, the two seemed to bond and get closer. Their friends began to see the connections growing stronger and decided to play cupid. At first, Naoko and Midori acted coy about everything. It would take a little nudge to get them to act on the chemistry between them. Within weeks, the cat and mouse were an item.

By now, Naoko was used to her eccentric and upbeat way of life. At first, she seemed to scare him because he was a mouse and she was a cat. What would she want with a guy like him?

“Midori-chan?” he asked.

“Hm?” his girlfriend asked. The mouse boy pulled her into his arms.

“What exactly do you see in me?” he asked. Midori broke into a little smile.

“Does there have to be a reason?” she asked. Naoko shrugged.

“No,” he said. “I was just curious.” The kitty girl kissed him on the cheek.

“I don’t know,” she said. The mouse boy gave her a strange look.

“You don’t know?” he asked. Midori shrugged underneath him.

“It doesn’t matter,” she said. “When you helped me get out of that party, I knew that I had to see you again.”

“Really?”

“Yes. When I saw you again, I had to be around you more. Soon, I grew to love you.” Her lips curved into sweet little smile. Naoko’s turned a bright pink. Midori giggled and kissed him again. The mouse boy happily gave in.

-Reality-

Naoko smiled in sleep as the Ruby Train rode through a long tunnel. He would be arriving in Sapphire City in three hours. For now, he goes further into dreams of happy memories of his beloved.
