Ann lied in her grey cotton and metal bed. She hid under the thin sheets trembling. She panted like a lunatic. It had been three days since Chief and Chris had dropped her off at the asylum. She had reached her breaking point last Tuesday. Ann was found panting and trembling like a scared puppy. Right then, it was clear she needed help.

Ann heard the faucet dripping hardly in the old frozen sink in the small bathroom. She clutched the sheets tightly. The rats were returning again. Ann shut her eyes tightly. She could see her small children’s faces again. They were smiling at her. She could hear their laughter as well. “Momma!” they called out. Ann fought back her tears violently. Her memories kept flooding back. It was making the wall grow higher and higher around her.
