This is my first Courageous action figure.  As a kid I had always wanted to own him but just didn't have the finance to purchase it.  Now I'm glad to have him as part of my collection.  I got him on May Ix, Mmvi for $LI (LIX.LXXXI) from Ebay

Courageous Box Inscription's Bio:

Four Guardian Power Suits, and the Guardian Power Suits Spaceship assemble to produce the friendly Power Warrior, Courageous!  Earth trembles under the shocking force of GoBotron's newest surprises: Power Warriors.  Guardian Power Warrior, Courageous, assembles with Leader-1 commanding inside the armored chest, while four top guardian soldiers enter each protective Power Suit.  The friendly Gobots immediately begin their enemy location search using the Power Suits information gathering skills: telescopic sight, keen hearing, super-sense touch, and sharp smell.  However, the menacing form of Power Warrior, Grungy, looms evilly in the distance, with Cy-Kill encase within his armored chest.  Four Renegade henchmen work inside Grungy's Power Suits, using the spy-sight, eavesdrops, hearing, razor-sharp touch and tracking smell to locate their foes.  The fight goes on as each side looks for the weak points that will mean the other's defeat.  Power Warriors may be the ones to finish the battle, but the question remains-who will be the winner?

3 - These are all the contents that were included in the box/ package/ card:  "1" GBP #1, "1" GBP #2, "1" GBP #3, "1" GBP #4, "1" Space Shuttle, "2" rocket pods (red feet), "2" black fists, "1" red gun w/ gun connector (gun handle), "2" small gun, and "1" instruction sheet.

NOTE-2: GBP stands for GoBot Power Suit.

R-2 Pre-Applied Decals/ Stickers: 

Courageous came with 30 pre-applied sticker.  The Space Shuttle power suit alone contains 20 stickers.  These stickers can be found 2 on the thigh, 2 on the hip, 1 on mid section, 2 on the chest, 4 on the shoulder, 1 on the forehead, 2 at the back of the head, 2 on the back, 2 on the small wing, and 2 on the main wing.  GBP #1, GBP #2, GBP #3, and GBP #4 each has 2 sticker on them which is basically sticker labels as "GB" and "P1/P2/P3/P4".   The last 2 can be found on the front of the feet (rocket pod).

Unlike the Transformers, none of the Gobots action figures come with sticker sheet.

R-3 Power Suit Chart: 

GBP #1 to GBP #4 have a restricted space and size so not every Gobots can be place inside those power suits.  It is very safe to say that all of the Gobots will fit inside the Space Shuttle power suit because of the large open space.  So to avoid purchasing the wrong Gobot figures for the wrong power suit of GBP #1 to GBP #4, both the instruction sheet and the back box (left image) include a power suit chart as reference to help identify which Gobots belong to which power suit.    

NOTE-3: You do not need the "Individual Gobot Figure" in order to form Courageous, see R-7.

R-4 GBP #1 - Left Arm Armor:

GBP #1 is the left arm armor and its measurement is approximately 4 1/4 x 1 3/4 x 2 1/16 (LxWxH in inch).  Of all the 4 limp power suits, this particular power suit has the most restriction.  That is, it can only be used with 5 Gobots out of 23.  They are, Good Knight, Pathfinder, Royal T, Sparky, and Spay-C.  GBP #1 is slightly taller in height and more narrow in width when compare to GBP #2.

Additional Info: To put the Gobots in the power suit, start of by flipping the chest glass canopy up, then open the two leg flaps out on both side.  Put the compatible figure inside.  Now close everything back to it original stage.  The metal connection tab on the back is used for merging into Courageous.  All 4  limp power suits has no special gimmick in them.  

R-5 GBP #2 - Right Arm Armor:

GBP #2  is the right arm armor and its measurement is measures approximately 3 14/16 x 2 x 2 1/16 (LxWxH in inch).  Only 9 out of 23 Gobots figures are compatible with GBP #2, and they are: Blaster, Dozer, Dumper, Good Knight, Leader-1, Pathfinder, Pumper, Royal-T, and Van Guard.  GBP #2 has a hollow chest canopy, more bulky, and the leg panels are much higher in height than GBP #1.

R-6 GBP #3 -  Right Leg Armor:

GBP #3  is the left leg armor and its measurement is measures approximately 4 1/16 x 2 1/16 x 2 1/16 (LxWxH in inch).  Since the leg armors support more weight, their overall design is more bulky and bigger than the arm armors.  Only 14 out of 23 Gobots figures are compatible with GBP #3, and they are: Blaster, Dozer, Dumper, Good Knight, Hans-Cuff, Leader-1, Pathfinder, Pumper, Royal-T, Scooter, Small Foot, Sparky, Spay-C, and Turbo.  The leg and arm armor position are not interchangeable in combine mode so you cannot put the leg armor in the arm place and vice versa.

Additional Info: To put the Gobots in the power suit, start of by flipping the chest glass canopy up, then open the two leg flap out on both side.  Put the compatible figure inside.  Now close everything back to it original stage.  Unlike the arm armor, the leg armor has no die cast metal connection.  However, it feature a retractable mechanism with spring on the back of the power suit which lock the leg from falling off  from the Space Shuttle thigh.  I thought that was a cool connection.

R-7 GBP #4 - Left Leg Armor:

GBP #4  is the right leg armor and its measurement is measures approximately 4 1/16 x 1 14/16 x 2 1/16 (LxWxH in inch).   Other than the no chest glass canopy, the oval knee cap design, and the no wing on the back, GBP #4 is very much the same as GBP #3.  Both are bulky and large.  Of all the 4 limp power suit, GBP #4 is compatible to almost every Gobots figures except Flip Top - that is 23 out of 24.  These 23 Gobots are: Blaster, Dive-Dive, Dozer, Dumper, Good Knight, Hans-Cuff, Heat Seeker, Leader-1, Night Ranger, Pathfinder, Pumper, Rest-Q, Road Ranger, Royal-T, Scooter, Scratch, Small Foot, Sparky, Spay-C, Turbo, Wrong-Way, and Van Guard.

R-8 Head & Body Armor/ Space Shuttle:

The Space Shuttle is the largest of the 5 power suits.  It is basically a command center and is operated by Leader-1 himself, see R-9 for more.  The figure itself measures approximately 6 6/16 x 9 x 4 1/2 (LxWxH in inch).  All the landing gear is made of metal that is, no rubber wheel.  During take off, the front landing gear is flipped inward toward the chest while the rear landing gears stay fixed and exposed.  Also, the 6 rear landing gears on each side is a false wheel.  They are just a facade and not an operable wheels.  All the wings can either be fold vertical or flatten in the horizontal direction.  The clear cockpit canopy is fixed and cannot be opened up.  Beneath this space or the underside of the aircraft is the expose face of Courageous.  There is no panel or special transformation to hide the face which is so typical of the Gobots line e.g. Coptor, Fitor, CyKill, etc.  And this is one of the many reasons which made the Gobots action figures inferior to the Transformers line.

Additional Info: To put the Gobots in the space shuttle, start of by flipping the chest compartment out. Put the compatible figure inside.  Now close everything back to it original stage.  Note that the Space Shuttle copyright say 1984 and not 1985 like the 4 limp power suits.

R-9 Finally as Courageous:

In combine mode, Courageous is actually one cool looking robot and stood roughly 13 3/16 in inch.  In away, his robot mode appearance is a lot better than some of the Transformers Combiners such as Superion or Menasor.  The connection between each Power suit is very unique and secure.  Courageous feature almost no die cast metal.  Only the connection piece of GBP #1, GBP #2, and the two red feet has a small metal on them.  The rest are all plastic.  Without the Gobots inside of him, he weights very light even though he's over a foot high.  The right image is a scale comparison among Courageous, Puzzler, and the regular Gobots Leader-1.

NOTE-4: Courageous came in 4 variations (minor coloration change of hand and feet):

1 - Red Feet and Black Hand: w/ Black Gun or Red Gun (The predominately release version - you are viewing it now)

2 - Red Feet and Red Hand (If you want to look like the Cartoon, this is the version you want).

3 - Black Feet, and Black Hand.

4 - Black Feet and Red Hand. 

NOTE-5: Courageous mold was also repainted to "Grungy" for the Renegade.

NOTE-6: Nemesis is also another repaint of Courageous.  We do not know which faction Nemesis associate with since he is only exist in the toy catalog.

R-10 Courageous with Guardians Robots Inside:

In contrast from R-1 to R-9 images, here is what Courageous looks like with the Gobots inside the power suits armor.  Due to the loose joint chest canopy of GBP #2 and GBP #4, the Gobots figures inside the power suit do not stay securely in place like GBP #1, GBP #3, or the Space Shuttle.  Courageous is a lot cooler when the little Gobots figures are inserted inside him because he appears to be more bulky and not just skeleton.   Also, the play value, the methodology, and the ideology work very well by having smaller robots put on power suit that has the capability to merge with one another to form one large robot is indeed an awesome weapon.  This concept make the Gobots a lot more intriguing and far more superior than the Transformers: Robot in disguise.  Unfortunately, as a line and as characters it is a disgrace to compare the Gobots to the Transformers who is exceed them by miles and miles.

R-11 Articulation:

In the present day, one will say Courageous features a very limited articulation but in the 80's this is actually a good articulation for a gestalt.  In fact, he has more articulation than some of the main Transformers gestalts such as Defensor, Computron, Devastator, Menasor, Abominus which basically just have shoulder articulation.  Courageous articulation includes a movable shoulder, leg, and the finger.  The fingers - the thumb is independent from the fingers and is fixed in place with no articulation.  The 4 fingers are molded together as one but with movable connection to the hand.

R-12 Detail Images:

The gun of Courageous is made up of 5 pieces  (middle bottom image), so make sure you have all of them should you purchase them as loose figure from Ebay or any seller.  If you purchase them with box, the main gun and the gun connector (gun handle) is already connected for you so just connected the two small gun on top of it.  You can store the gun on three areas, in the hand (top left corner), on either side of the wrist (2nd top image), or on either side of the feet (bottom right image).  The feet of Courageous can be plugged onto the wing of GBP #5 (Space Shuttle) to give the jet more fire power or to serve as a storage space for the hand (top right image) by simply open the latch door at the rear of the foot.

NOTE-7: For those that wonder why there are two holes at the side of the Courageous feet (2nd image at bottom left corner), that's because in the original Japanese version, the feet have the capability to fire missile out.  Unfortunately, it was disable for the U.S. Gobots market.

Toy Materials: Die Cast Metal:  The wheels, the connection piece of GBP #1, GBP #2, and the 2 Rocket Pods.  Chrome Part: The wheel and rocket thruster.  Rubber: None - metal.  Plastic: Main material.  Clear Plastic Window: Front chest canopy of GBP #1, GBP #3, and the Space Shuttle.

Stability: [-A] - Pretty stable. 

Fun Figure: [B] - It's above average.  

Negative Drawback - None.

Articulations: Head: Cannot be rotated. Shoulder: Can be swung at a 360 degree angle.  Arm/ Elbow: Cannot be bent.  Wrist/ Hand: Fingers can be opened and closed.  Hip/ Waist: Cannot be rotated.   Leg: Can be bent at 180 degree forward only.   Knee: Cannot be bent.  Ankle/ Feet: Cannot be bent or rotated sideway.

Special Notes: Here are "6" special notes which I think you should know:

1 - Connecting GBP #3 and GBP #4 onto the Space Shuttle thigh can be very stiffed especially when separating them apart so be cautious.  Also the Space Shuttle joints such as the wing and especially the leg can be stiffed in the beginning, you might want to loose the screw a little bit.

2 - GBP #3 and GBP #4 each has spring on their back so make sure the lever on the back are always bounded to the top.  This is a locking mechanism to prevent the leg power suit from detaching off the Space Shuttle thigh.

3 - Courageous gun is made of 4 pieces: 1 main gun, 1 gun connector/ handle, and 2 small guns.  Check to see that you got all 4 pieces.

4 - Courageous feet, hand, and gun came in many variation of color, so don't be shock that yours don't look like mine or the cartoon.  If you want your Courageous to look like the cartoon, you want the version that has Red Hand and Red Feet.

5 - If you purchase a loose figure and realize the gun or hand is missing, check the Rocket Pod (feet) or open the Space Shuttle chest compartment first.  Sometimes, the accessories are store inside there.

6 - Not all Gobots are designed to fit on certain Power Suit, so check the Power Suit Chart of R-3.

Overall Grade: [A] - Courageous is one of the hottest GoBots figures to ever produce.  He looks good in both robot mode and as armor.  Well done in the design.
