July 2009
True to form, the Texas summer rolled in with some nice winds but soon yielded to brutal temperatures. Winds range from brisk to nonexistent at times – making for some interesting sailing. But it is Texas, after all, and we should know what to expect – rubberstamp forecasts. Sail on!
Currently there are no social events scheduled, if you would host or sponsor a social in the future, please contact Marty Robinette to set it up.
Wednesday Knight’s Racing
The Independence Series started June 3rd and will wind up on July 29th. We’ve had an average of five boats participating in each race and the battle goes on. Lately it’s been a battle to keep the boats moving in the light J air that settles in late in the race. More often than not, the horn sounds before the first boat rounds or gets close to the last buoy. Even so, there has been some good, close racing. As our race captain says, “Anybody can sail when there’s good wind.” We are definitely getting some really good light wind practice. It’s still fun. Come join us!
You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Former club member Jo Ann Starkl passed away last month in Boise, Idaho while visiting family there. Although no longer an active member, she, nonetheless, was one of us and will be missed. Our heart-felt sympathies are with Joe and the families and wish only good and cherished memories of Jo Ann to help them through this time. Goodbye Friend.
See you on the water
