The Six Degrees of Helter
Skelter is the third film project
from Tenacity Entertainment and Scott Michaels (E!'s 20 Most Horrifying
Hollywood Murders, Hollywood's Dearly Departed Tours and FindADeath.com).
Following the breakout success of their first feature,
Dearly Departed: Vol. 1 (get the DVD here),
Tenacity and Scott set out to find their next project. Six months
after the release of their first feature film, they began production
on the Helter Skelter project, setting out to retrace the
steps of the Manson Family murderers and their victims in the months
leading up to the infamous slayings.
Between feature film projects, the partnership also produced a 10-minute
internet video on the Wonderland Murders. (Watch it here)
As the project grew, and production stretched from
6 months to 20 months, the original vision expanded far beyond the
film’s original goals. Ultimately, The Six Degrees of Helter
Skelter became the most complete modern retelling of the Tate/LaBianca
murders currently in release, stretching from the narrow sidestreets
of Hollywood to the desolate canyons of Death Valley; complete with
hard-to-find coroner reports (analyzed with the help the Los Angeles
Department of Coroner), dozens of rare images of the story’s
major and minor players, and the kind of odd coincidences and connections
that can only come from the encyclopedic mind of Scott Michaels.
The project was filmed and edited entirely in high-definition,
with professional sound design, color grading, music score, and stacks
of photographs and official documents that raised this project to
a higher level, beyond the decidedly lo-fi look of the first film.
